Drew was an outfielder from the small town of Hahira, Ga., near Valdosta. He wasn't a heralded player being recruited by colleges from all over, but it didn't take long for coach Martin to realize that this kid from Hahira was destined for greatness. Drew had picked up the game of baseball at age 13 playing with his brothers and neighbors in the cow pastures across from his family home. He joined the Boys Club team in Valdosta and from there baseball became his focus. Drew went on to be named the Vikings' best offensive player all four years, all-regional MVP and a member of the Team Georgia All-Star squad his senior year.

PDA View Full Version : Is JD Drew worth 5yrs at $50 mil? 12-08-2004, 04:58 PM Looks like Atlanta severed their ties with him today, and he's a free agent. I would LOVE to see Detroit get him, and I think he's one of the few guys out there who's really worth it. I would give him a 5yr/$55 mil deal in a heartbeat. MotownRandy 12-08-2004, 05:01 PM No way. WMUDan 12-08-2004, 05:05 PM I like JD... give him what the market bears. 12-08-2004, 05:05 PM 3 yrs or less with an injury prone guy like that. JonBenke 12-08-2004, 05:10 PM I wouldn't mind a package of free agents...that includes JD Drew. However, I wouldn't want to get just JD Drew. motownphilly 12-08-2004, 05:16 PM 4 years $30 million at the most. I still haven't gotten over what he did to Philly though... Buddha 12-08-2004, 05:19 PM I bet you could get Ordonez for MUCH cheaper and shorter deal considering his injury concerns. That's a gamble I'd take over giving an injury prone Drew a 5 year deal. 12-08-2004, 05:25 PM

Main The Boston Globe reports the Sox are feeling less optimistic about their chances to sign Daisuke Matsuzaka. I think the Globe needs to be a little smarter about who's involved. According to sources with direct access to the Sox' view, there is an increasing feeling that Boras is setting the stage, both privately and publicly, that there is not going to be a deal. "Unless he's being less than honest," one source said, "there isn't going to be a deal." Be less than honest? No, Boras has

General Discussion Miscellaneous - Non-Political Pages: Dan Gould Nov 9 2006, 08:46 AM Speaking of the Japanese pitcher, I have to say I am surprised that no one has broken the story of who won the bidding for the right to negotiate. I think the odds are pretty low this guy is "Fat Pussy Toad" Irabu all over again, but there are risks involved. Specifically, Japanese lineups aren't filled with sluggers swinging from their heels, as he'll especially face if he goes to the AL. The other factor is work load, I believe Japanese pitchers throw much more both in games and in between, so there's the risk of overuse or just plain wearing down. He's also not exactly a Clemens/Papelbon physique, much more like Pedro's, and we know what happened eventually there.
