The study also links the pill to potentially artery-clogging plaque in women who no longer use oral contraception, he says, noting that 81% of women in the study took the pill, on average, for 13 years. Doctors cautioned that the study is small and should be confirmed by more research.

As the Appalachians were settled in the mid 1700's by the Irish, Scottish, English and Dutch-Germans, the folk dances of each area met and began to combine in an impromptu foot-tapping style, the beginning of clog dancing as we know it today. Accompanied by rousing fiddle and bluegrass music. Clogging was a means of personal expression in a land of new found freedoms. The word "Clog" comes from the Gaelic and means "time". Clogging is a dance that is done in time with the music - to the downbeat - usually with the heel keeping rhythm. As clogging made its way to the flatlands, other influences shaped it. From the Cherokee Indians, to African Blacks and Russian Gypsies, clogging has enveloped many different traditions to become truly a "melting pot" of step dances. F or In the mid 1930's, another innovator emerged to help propel mountain style dancing to national prominence. Dr. Lloyd "Pappy" Shaw, a teacher and Superintendent at the Cheyenne Mountain School in Colorado, and an avid collector of dances, steps and square dance calls, formed an exhibition team from the dozens of high school students he taught and began to tour the United States, sharing his knowledge of dance with all who were interested. His 1939 book, "Cowboy Dances", is consider by many to be one of the finest historical collections of early American dances ever printed. After World War II, Dr. Shaw began to offer classes at his Cheyenne Mountain School in the instruction of old time dancing.

The competition dancing started over 15 years ago as a team. The Hoedowners, under the direction of Sherry Cox, hold six National titles and CCA National Challenge 2000 and 2001 Team . The Hoedowners are the only clogging team to ever hold both CCA and NCHC National titles in the same year. The Tennessee Hoedowners have performed at various TV shows like Crook and Chase, Nashville Now and the Grand Ole Opry . They have been involved in theme park performances at Silver Dollar City, Branson Mo. and Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. They entertained at Silver Dollar City for three years and at Dollywood in the Randy Parton "Back to the Country Show" for two years. The Hoedowners entertained groups all over the USA and Europe. The Hoedowners have been special guest at the Bristol Ballet and the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra, where they demonstrated their skills as Irish Step Dancers for the past three years. The group keeps own growing and changing as time goes along. The Hoedowners started some twenty five years ago with only five dancers and has grown to several teams, Peewees, Elementary, Juniors, Seniors and more with a total of approx. one hundred and fifty dancers at any given time.

Clogging is an expressive style of American dance with origins in the folk dances of the British Isles, Africa, and pre-Columbian America. Settlers in the American South took elements of these styles to form a unique American dance style, Appalachian clog dancing. By the 1930s, professional dance teams had combined traditional dance steps with more contemporary figures, creating colorful and energetic routines for the stage. Clogging is thought of by many as an age-old dance form steeped in the rich culture of isolated mountain hollers, maintained alongside ballads, folk tales, and fiddle tunes. In actuality, it is not the least bit static and has quite a complex and multi-faceted history. Its story is only partly known, with many questions that are as yet unanswered and many that will likely remain obscure forever. The percussive footwork that is now an integral part of team clogging began as a solo form, and is known by many names, including "buck dance," "buck and wing," "flatfooting," "jigging," "hoedowning," "surefooting," or just plain "dancing." The name used depends largely on the place of use: for example, "hoedowning" is a term used in eastern Kentucky, while "jigging" is the name used in Missouri. "Flatfooting" is most common in northwest North Carolina and southern Virginia, while "buck dancing" is the label most used in southwestern North Carolina and also by African-Americans in the Piedmont. In some areas, flatfooting is the style done with feet low to the ground while buck dancing is a little higher stepping with weight on the balls of the feet. In other regions, buck dancing is the style with low steps while tap raises them up a bit more. In still others, once the feet come up off the ground very far, the dancer is simply clogging.

For the last several months, every day, sometime between 9:30 and 10:00, the left-most stall has a great deal of toilet paper in the bowl. It is usually in a distinctive layout - it looks like it was being used to prevent contact with the seat, as well as wadded up and tossed in the bowl. I am estimating 1/5th to 1/3 of a roll is used per visit. It also looks as if there is urine in the bowl. If there is feces in the bowl, it is completely covered and not visible. Attempts to flush the toilet usually result in blockage and overflow.

Last week the AP published an article titled " How Internet Video Is Clogging the Pipes ". It's basis for the argument is that ISPs like Comcast and Time Warner Cable are shaping traffic due to file sharing. Ok, but what does that have to do with online video? Sharing files that may or may not contain video content is not "online video". Sharing a file via a download from one user to another does not involve the playback of any video online, it's played back locally from the users computer. Yet, after saying that file sharing is the problem, the article then says that "Internet use keeps climbing, with video being the big driver in recent years. Google Inc.'s YouTube, which started up in 2005, already accounts for about 10 percent of Internet traffic." First, is there anyone out there besides the company who produced that report that believes that YouTube accounts for 10% of all traffic passed on the Internet? And second, how can you compare file sharing to YouTube? They are two different types of traffic. File sharing is usually very large files and most times at very high quality. YouTube is short form content at very low quality. My point is that we keep having to read articles every few months about how online video is supposedly breaking, clogging, or filling the pipes to the point that the Internet is going to come to a halt. There is no data anywhere to back this up. Yes, video traffic has grown and continues to each year, but it has been doing that for the past 10+ years. Online video is not clogging the Internet and I have yet to see anyone with any real data to back up the theory that online video is going to fill up all of the capacity the Internet has to offer.
