Extractions: Jump to: navigation search Chemical Information Sources Wiki Introduction Chemists of all types need to be able to identify with certainty the substances they have made, extracted from a source, or sampled in some manner. In some cases, the species they are testing exist for very short periods of time as intermediates in chemical reactions. Whether they are trying to determine the sequences and structure of biomolecules with molecular weights in the hundreds of thousands or attempting to detect minute quantities of a small molecule that is present as a few parts per billion, analytical chemistry provides many of the tools and techniques to find the answers. Separation science is one area of concern, whether the technique be chromatography, electrophoresis, centrifugation, or some other method of separation. Spectral databases and compilations in all ranges of the spectrum (UV/visible, infrared, microwave, etc.) as well as data compilations that result from newer spectral techniques are all available to assist in the identification of an unknown substance or the confirmation of a reaction product.

Qualitative organic analysis seeks to establish the presence of a given functional group or organic compound in a sample. Quantitative analysis seeks to establish the amount of a given element or compound in a sample. Most modern analytical chemistry is quantitative. Quantitative analysis can be further split into different areas of study. The material can be analyzed for the amount of an element, or for the amount of an element in a specific chemical species. The latter is of particular interest in biological systems; the molecules of life contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and others, in many complex structures. There are a bewildering array of techniques available to separate, detect and measure chemical compounds. These can be grouped into four main categories:

Extractions: Our systems are used throughout the continuum of pharmaceutical discovery and development from the early disease-discovery phase, through ADME-Tox research. For example, our electrochemical detectors are used to better understand disease targets and, in drug development, to determine the stability of a drug in different formulations. In pharmaceutical QC applications where identification of contaminants, or a precise understanding of how and why a compound degrades, or an exact quantitation of active and inactive ingredients, can literally be a matter of life and death manufacturers have previously had to rely on imprecise tools that can only illuminate part of the equation. No more. Our offerings set a new standard for quality-control applications.
