But the question of “lead shot for water game” has also been a hot subject for years in Europe. There is always the danger in intensively hunted shallow water areas that bottom-feeding water game eats the lead shot and dies. But lead shot can also affect agricultural areas that are intensively hunted or clay pigeon shooting stands located in water protection areas or where shooting takes place near standing or flowing water. The leaders here are the Netherlands and Denmark: Both countries now only permit soft iron shot cartridges. Other European countries are also discussing the avoidance of lead shot and are aiming in the coming years to stop the use of lead shot almost entirely. A joint recommendation by the Deutschen Jagdschutzverbandes and the Federal Ministries for consumer protection, nutrition, agriculture and forestry specifies complete avoidance of lead shot cartridges for hunting ducks on water and other waterfowl. In the mean-time, the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Niedersachsen, Nordrhein-Westfalen und Baden-W¼rttemberg have take up this recommendation and issued decrees limiting or even completely excluding the hunting of waterfowl and hunting on water or shallow waters with lead shot. It is foreseeable that this development will be taken up by further federal states.

In a news release issued Monday (10/1/05), WWF Asia Pacific director Isabelle Louis said areas with healthy coral reefs and intact mangroves suffered less damage from the December 26 tsunamis than areas where reefs and mangroves had been destroyed for development projects. "Places that had healthy coral reefs and intact mangroves, which act as natural buffers, were less badly hit by the tsunami than those where the reefs had been damaged and mangroves ripped out and replaced by prawn farms and poorly planned beachfront hotels," she said.

Environment and the farm Abstract Processes on dairy farms that affect the environment include fertilizer application, water use, the by-products of animal metabolism, effluent treatment and solid waste disposal. Fertilizers, and in some countries irrigation of water, are essential to maintain and enhance feed production. Irrigation has led to issues concerning availability of water and salinity of soils. Fertilizer use may result in leaching of nitrates and phosphates. Dung and urine from animal metabolism are recycled back to the land in both grazed and housed farming systems. This results in losses of contaminants to the atmosphere (methane and nitrous oxide) and groundwater (nitrates). When dung and urine are collected in the farm dairy or from housed animals, losses occur from the collection, treatment and re-use systems. Dairy farming also affects the environment through the use of agrichemicals, disposal of solid wastes and plastics. Methane is an important by-product from rumen metabolism accounting for about 6% of a cow’s energy intake. Methane from ruminants can be a significant component of some country’s national greenhouse gas inventories. To address these issues environmental management systems are being developed and life cycle analysis of operations are being undertaken.

This shockpad is fabricated from recycled rubbertype waste. Recycling is now a fashionword but we have been using recycled materials for more than 30 years! The shockpad is about 60 % of the volume, in addition we have about 8 % natural compounds and about 14 % natural minerals. This equates to only 18 % of a pulastic flooring system as pure virgin synthetic. Since we do not use any timber there are no damages to forests. The polyurethane selflevelling layers do not contain any solvents and are free of mercury, lead, pcb, cadmium and flourocarbons. Due to the long lifespan, Pulastic floors generate a very limited amount of waste.
