Just me no sleep going out drive to Niagara Falls See if the moan of the tires on the road can get me droopy eyed.
Warm breezy balmy really nice out.
Some one back there yesterday mentioned about acrylics and throwing them out and going back to watercolor. You can use acrylics like water color. I have a video on that and it works too..
Take each color and put in a shallow saucer or those stacking nesting cups then put water over top. Then mix up your colors in the water. Use as washes. Beleive it or not it works. Only thing is once the color is on there is no going back. You can paint wetinwet etc but you can not lift or correct as in watercolor but you can paint over top. Use almost the same way as you do with watercolor "almost"
Try it you might like it.
Have a great day all, I'm going too!!
Johnnie laudesan 07-23-2004, 02:06 AM Hi Johnnie and AWAYTC.. :)
Trouble with using Acrylics like Watercolours is that Acrylics are opaque..

Font Font Frida Kahlo has been revered as on of the most influential twentieth-century artist of the Americas. Her personal and at times political paintings filled with her own emotional trials of life's joys and pains has enlightened a whole movement of female artists. Her art has been said to be a symbol of female struggle. She is adored by American and Mexican and is often regarded as an iconic female artist. She may be one of the first twentieth century fine artists to paint in detail about childbirth, miscarriages and other women's issues. Her art is characterized as ego-centric but she was simply painting and sculpting about her own life experiences as a person and a woman.

Frida Kahlo Home Biography Education Resume ... Blog Introduction:
San Diego Museum of Art is looking for a new exhibition of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. This exhibition is to tell her life story through her art. Task:
Your task is to design and create a Frida Kahlo art exhibit. Questions to consider: Which pieces of art closely represent her life? Which periods of her life are you going to focus on? What type of explanations are you going to have? How many pieces of art are you going to include? Your final product will be shown to your class in various ways: a PowerPoint presentation with each slide containing a picture along with an explanation; a book containing the pictures and explanations and with a copy for each student; a poster with the pictures and explanations of each picture chosen. Remember your goal: telling the story of Frida Kahlo through words and her art. Process:
1. First, explore the following sites to get information regarding the life of Frida Kahlo.

Studying Surrealism
Surrealistic Drawing Basics Students will begin drawing on the first day of the semester with a series of quick pencil sketches of basic forms- cube, sphere, cone, and canister. Then we will study the surrealism of Salvador Dali and and develop the forms into charcoal drawings in the style of these surrealistic artists. Surrealism was both a literary and artistic movement that began in the 1920s-it is a style of art that defies reason, but uses realistic imagery and objects juxtaposed often in unnatural settings. Surrealism promotes unconscious thought through fantasy and imagination. So students' geometric forms can be floating, flying, or placed within another object, depending on their choices. Students will be asked to bring in an additional form from home to add to their drawing. Surrealistic Chalk Drawing: a new language of shapes The Second Project in the Surrealistic series is an abstracted pastel reproduction of a famous master painting. Students will imitate the style of Joan Miró by selecting a famous realistic painting and reducing and simplifying it to its basic shapes. Then they will separate the shapes, resize some, and draw them on an 18"x24" piece of black paper with chalk, paying special attention to the principles of variety, contrast, movement, and rhythm. Students will replicate the same colors in the original painting, and in addition add a ladder and horizon line to demonstrate moving from the real or conscious world to the unreal or surreal world, like Miró. See these pictures for an illustration of Miro's thought process that students are imitating:
