After much thought and discussion with my family I have decided to remove myself from the upcoming World Baseball Classic roster. After the announcement I received a lot of criticism as well as concern from fans and my family and friends. The obvious objections were about my health and whether or not I would beready to play. In the end, I decided that I can't take any chances that might jeopardize my season. I don't want to give the impression that the WBC is not important. I know this means a lot to showcasing our sport worldwide, and the patriotism of playing for Team USA would have been a great honor. I feel what is best for me, my family, the Giants, and our fans is that I sit the WBC out. As it is every season, my main goal and main focus is for our team to win a championship. I need to be in the best physical shape for the 2006 season in what could possibly be my last season. I owe it to the Giants organization, my teammates, and most of all to the fans of San Francisco to give 100 percent this season. I assure you, my decision was not an easy one, but based on my circumstances, I had to put my health and my team first. I wish Team USA the best of luck and even though I won't be in the dugout with them, I'll be definitely be cheering them on to bring our country a WBC title.

Avant-Guardian May 15th, 2007, 01:30 PM I've heard people argue that technically, if he is guilty of using steroids, he wasn't cheating since it wasn't illegal in baseball during the time he was using it. I mean, cheating is breaking the rules. There was no rule at the time. These same people bring up the blatant cheating that existed since the beginning of baseball... like corked bats, juiced balls, vaseline on the cap, etc. But there is no hootin' and hollerin' about that. Then what about Bud Selig? Shouldn't he be held responsible for not paying attention to the problem sooner rather than later? How long has this so-called Steroid Era persisted? I remember seeing how much bigger Canseco and McGwire were than the other guys during their Oakland A's heyday of the late '80s. However, I was too young and ignorant to speculate on why they were so big. I was about 10-14. They were just the most obvious, but has it gone on before them? What about the other players? Of course, all of the attention is focused on Bonds now since he is on the brink of breaking Hank Aaron's record, but when the smoke clears, will he ultimately be the sole fall guy?

During the conversation with Peter McGowan I was told that my play this year far exceeded any expectations the Giants had, but that the organization decided this year would be my last season in San Francisco. Although I am disappointed, I've always said baseball is a business and I respect their decision. However, I am saddened and upset that I was not given an earlier opportunity to properly say goodbye to you, my fans, and celebrate with the city throughout the season as I truly believe this was not a last minute decision by the Giants, but one that was made some time ago. I don't have nor do I want any ill feelings towards the organization, I just wish I had known sooner so we had more time to say our goodbyes and celebrate the best 15 years of my life. According to Grimsley's lawyer, Ed Novak, it was. He says the feds wanted Grimsley to cooperate and even wear a wire, and raided his home when he refused. No one has explained how a wire would work if Grimsley is on a different team than Bonds, isn't friends with Bonds, and has to dress in front of teammates and news reporters every day.
