Sandy Koufax Sanford Koufax was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 30, 1935. He attended the University of Cincinnati on a basketball scholarship before joining the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1955. A left-hander, Koufax enjoyed a five-year stretch as perhaps the most dominating pitcher in the history of baseball. He had three 25-win seasons, captured five straight ERA titles, and set a new standard with 382 strikeouts in 1965. His fastball and curve enabled him to pitch no-hitters in four consecutive seasons, culminating with a perfect game in 1965. He also posted a 0.95 ERA in four career World Series (1959, 1963, 1965, and 1966), leading the Dodgers to three championships. He retired from baseball at the end of the 1966 season because of arthritis in his pitching arm. Awards and Honors member of six consecutive All-Star teams, 1961-1966
National League MVP, 1963
National League Cy Young Award, 1963, 1965, 1966

His production began to tail off in 1979 and he was traded to the New York Mets in 1982. Media pressure to perform troubled him in his first season, when he hit only 13 home runs, his lowest total since 1974. He came back to hit 28, 24, and 21 over the next three seasons. During the 1988 season, the Mets traded him to the Chicago White Sox and he retired after just 15 games with Chicago.
QUOTE
Foster had a career .274 batting average in 1,977 games, with 1,925 hits, including 307 doubles, 47 triples, and 348 home runs. He drove in 1,239 runs and scored 986.

An unabashed cockfighting enthusiast, macho Borbon reportedly could warm up faster and throw a ball farther than anyone else in the NL during the mid-1970s when he was a top reliever for Cincinnati's "Big Red Machine." He liked to show off by throwing strikes to home plate from the center field warning track during batting practice. His best seasons were 1973 (11-4 with 14 saves) and 1977 (10-5 with 18 saves).

WS here we come!I commented awhile ago on the NL West.
For a good run there were no losers.
Since then, the Rockies have settled back into their normal spot in an amazing first to last performance.
Still they aren't doing too bad as a division.
IJ Reilly 06-04-2006, 01:44 PM The thing is too that the NL West hasn't just been playing itself all this time, we are beating other teams too. :p
WS here we come!
Exactly, if the divisions had only been playing themselves, then the combined records for every division would be .500.
As the number of games counted increases, I'd expect all of these numbers to regress to the mean, but for now at least, the NL West is the Best. cycocelica 06-04-2006, 02:10 PM Good to see both my favorite teams divisions are doing well (Yankees and Dodgers). Of coures the AL West is last. They are really sucking this year. I mean even Seattle is in third and the Angels are right there with them. Pathetic.
