What a crazy night
This night has been nuts for sure. Mainly the last three hours or so. It seems Joe Girardi is going to be the next Yankees manager. All signs are pointing that direction, though the Yankees have not confirmed that.
But the absolute news and stunner is that Alex Rodriguez opted out - during the final game of the World Series!! Longtime Newsday writer and now SI.com writer Jon Heyman was first to report the opting out. The Yankees have said for many months that they would be out if Rodriguez opted out, but everyone figured it would go right down to the deadline (10 days after the end of the World Series). The Rangers, who originally signed Rodriguez to the 10-year, $252-million contract, were to pay more than $21 million over the next three seasons, which is why the Yankees have been so adamant they would give Rodriguez an extension but not negotiate with him if he opted out. We'll see if they stick to that. Rodriguez's agent, Scott Boras, saidd by phone last night in confirming the optout: "Alex called me today and instructed me to send notice to the Yankees to that effect."

PDA View Full Version : 2007 New York Yankees Pages : riverplate 23 Oct 2007, 06:07 AM It seems a little strange to me that they're filling in their coaching staff without first having a manager in place. I'd think the new manager would want to have some input on that as well.
I think you misunderstood my post. It's Seattle that hired Stottlemyre, not the Yankees. SueB 23 Oct 2007, 06:30 AM Woops. :o My bad. riverplate 23 Oct 2007, 02:19 PM I've seriously tried to refrain from dancing on this guy's grave, but I can't take it anymore.
A popular pastime the last few days with New York sports writers and commentators has been bashing the "new" Yankee front office for their supposed blunders in handling the Joe Torre situation. Of course, Joe Torre played the press and fanbase like a flute during his tenure and ultimately managed to raise himself above any valid criticism whatsoever. Short of The Great Man retiring, there was almost no way to soften his departure.
Randy Levine, club president (and formerly one of Rudolph Giuliani's deputy mayors), and George Steinbrenner's two sons are all being portrayed as total buffoons. The same reporters who for years ripped Boss George for his impulsive and rash decisions are now tearing into these guys for refusing to rush into throwing a new contract at Torre for a billion dollars per year. These reporters need to find scapegoats for their anger at Joe finally being held responsible for the Yankees often sluggish play in this post-"Red Sox debacle" era. Outrageously caricaturing and demonizing the new faces in the front office is the simplistic route to take and they're going at it like army ants. And it's sure easier than defending Joe's recent record.

A-Rod- Why All The "Hating"?
miguel 02-22-2006, 07:01 PM First of all, let me make you guys aware that I am NOT a fan of his, even if he plays for my beloved Yankees.
But as a baseball fan, I DO NOT have to be a "fortune teller" to see the man's contribution to baseball.
True, the guy DO NOT deserve all the money that he is getting. Who does?. If a player is paid for how good he is, he should be the "leader" in earnings because he is just about better than anybody who plays baseball right now.
The thing that I don't understand is why is it that so many are against him. Don't like the guy all you want but do not question his motives on handling a baseball situation.
I could understand if he were a prick like Jorge Bell, a man who not only would not talk to the press, but also a person who would tell you, like he told thousand of fans in Toronto: "Boo all you want because I am a millionaire and you have to go to your factory's job tomorrow", or something like that. Or:
I could understand if he was a drug and alcohor abuser like Strawberry and Gooden. How many chances did they got?. And let's not forget that alcoholic pitcher that the Yankees had. He got what, 7 chances.

Gorillamask Forums Topics Of Discussion Sports PDA View Full Version : MLB: 2007/8 offseason - Clemens took it in the butt Pages : ADD 11-13-2007, 04:13 AM The Giants won't come close to paying A-Rod what he wants. It's going to either be the Dodgers bidding against themselves ala the Rangers the last time, or his price is going to come down, and then it's any of the teams with money. Pollo 11-13-2007, 04:23 AM I really hope Colletti doesn't fuck up this offseason as he did last year with that horrible Pierre signing. but if anything, I think McCourt is calling the shots with Torre especially on the A-Rod front with some "bad blood" still between Boras and Colletti. Ned needs to realize that most of the best players in baseball are represented by Boras, so he's going to have to learn to deal with him. Ned also has one year remaining on his contract, so really it's put up or shut up time for him to do something impressive because I'm all for a new GM like Logan White (Dodgers talent scout).
supposedly Ned offered Florida Loney, Kemp, and Billingsley for Cabrera last year, and I'm surprised Florida declined that. don't they feel like fools now, eh? but I really don't want to give up the kids knowing what horrible things Ned can do. sign A-Rod and preserve the kids.
