Ruth, Babe Ruth, Babe (1895-1948), American professional baseball player, one of the most phenomenally gifted and popular players in the history of baseball. He was born George Herman Ruth in Baltimore, Maryland, and began his career in 1914 as a left-handed pitcher for the Baltimore team of the International League. Later in the same year he played for the Providence team of the International League and then became a member of the Boston Red Sox of the American League. He pitched for Boston until the 1919 season, when his unusual ability as a batter and fielder caused the Boston management to convert him into an outfielder. From 1920 to 1935 he played the outfield for the New York Yankees of the American League. In 1935 he became vice-president of the Boston Braves of the National League and played a number of games as an outfielder. Three years later he was a coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers of the National League. Ruth was one of the best left-handed pitchers the game has ever known, and from 1919 to the end of his career he was the outstanding outfielder of his time and one of the best in baseball history. He was particularly noted as a home-run hitter. In 1927 he hit 60 home runs in 154 games, a major league record that stood until 1961. His lifetime record of 714 home runs in regular-season play was broken by Hank Aaron in 1974. Ruth was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.

Am I crazy, or am I right? 04-03-2007, 07:32 PM It reminds me of 1959 throwback day back in 2005. Am I crazy, or am I right?
That is the first thing i thought of when i saw him. 04-03-2007, 09:27 PM There is only problem with his uni, no stirrups. It used to be every player wore stirrups, but now hardly anyone does. Stirrups are the classic baseball look and I thought it was so cool that in '05 everyone (I think) wore stirrups with the throw back uni. But high socks are okay, so much better than the pajama pants look that we see all too often these days. 04-03-2007, 09:39 PM I think the high socks looks much better than the pants beneath the cleat. However during my games I still go with the pants under the cleat look.

Sports Card Forum Trading and Sports Talk Baseball Card Forum Baseball Chat ... PDA View Full Version : is randy johnson the best pitcher of all time 05-19-2004, 08:23 PM i sure think so he just pitched a perfect game at age forty i live in az he the best day in and day out 05-19-2004, 08:32 PM I think that Sandy Koufax is the best ever. He had an ERA of under 2 in 1963, 64, and 66. In 1965, he had 382 strikeouts. The most that Johnson has ever had is 372. Also, the lowest ERA that Randy Johnson had was 2.28 in 1997, and Koufax's best was 1.73 in '66. Although Johnson has more carrer strikeouts, you need to consider that Koufax only pitched 12 years, and so far Johnson has pitched 16. 05-19-2004, 09:12 PM I would consider Johnson the best lefty of all time. He can just dominate a game, just like yesterday. 05-19-2004, 09:21 PM Randy Johnson is not even in the top 10 of all time. Randy is definitely a future HOFer in my book but I would not put him up there as the best of all time. You can name a handful of players off the top of your head that were better for a longer period of time and in the case of Koufax, who knows what kind of numbers he would have put up if he played longer. Guys like Koufax, Cy Young, Christy Mathewson, etc, etc were better. Randy is not even in the top 100 ERA leaders of all time. Just by that stat alone you can't include him up there. 05-19-2004, 09:54 PM
