Joe Dumars Joe Dumars is one of the most highly regarded basketball players of all time. He was successful in college, the NBA, and is still successful today as a general manager for his old team the Detroit Pistons. Dumars is best known for his play in the late 80’s and early 90’s with the “Bad Boys” of the Detroit Pistons. He was drafted 18 th overall out of McNeese St. in the 1985 NBA draft (NBA), and was named to the NBA all rookie team in 1986 (Motor). Joe Dumars quickly became a leader on and off the court with the Pistons. He was often refereed to as the quite nice one in comparison with his teammates. He played with legendary hot-heads like Bill Laimbeer Isiah Thomas, Rick Marhorn , and Dennis Rodman. In the 1988-1989 season Dumars helped to lead Detroit to its’ first of two back to back NBA champion ships. In fact he was voted the Finals MVP for the 1989 Finals (NBA). Dumars won many other awards during his playing days including: NBA All-Defensive First Team in 1988-89, 1989-90, 1991-91 and 1992-93, 6 time NBA All-Star, and was the first ever recipient of the NBA Sportsmanship Award in 1997 (NBA). Upon his retirement Dumars was named the Director of Player Personal for the Pistons (Motor). He currently has moved up the ranks and is now the General Manger for the club (Hoops).
