David Robinson The glory. The big endorsements. Patriotism. All would have been good reasons for David Robinson to choose to compete in his third Olympics, but none was the primary factor. Robinson, one of the greatest centers in basketball history, said he competed in 1996 because "It's a great opportunity to model Christ in front of a lot of people by the way I play and the way I conduct myself." Robinson's life revolves around serving Jesus Christ, to whom he has given control of his life. "Every time I step on the court, I think about glorifying God," Robinson says. "I just want to make sure people don't think I'm great, but that they think about how great God is. I want people to realize that I'm not any different from them. By the grace of God I grew seven-feet tall. But the greatest thing about life is not that I'm seven-feet tall (2.133 meters) and can play pro basketball, or that I have a little extra spending money. I wake up and almost cry that God is so good and kind and loves me so much that he gave me three incredible children and an incredible wife. He is the giver of all good things." In his past two Olympics, Robinson has used his great success in basketball as a platform to tell people about Jesus. He couldn't do that in his first Olympics because he had not yet become a follower of Jesus, but then he realized that his life was incomplete without the Savior.

David Robinson David Robinson was born August 6, 1965 in Key West Florida . As a child David’s family moved many times, but was settled down for high school in Northern Virginia . With David’s Father being an officer in the Navy, David enrolled to the naval academy after high school. Not long after David enrolled he would grow to be 6 feet 9 inches in height and wearing a size 17 shoe. At the Naval Academy , David became very dominant in basketball. He acquired the nickname “The Admiral” because of his great leadership skills in college. Although David only played basketball for one year in high school, he was an All-American his junior and senior years and the Naval Academy . After graduation at the naval academy, he had to finish his two years of naval duty before going to the NBA. It was 1989 when Robinson made his day view with the San Antonio Spurs. He now stood 7 feet 1 inch entering the NBA, and in his first season helped the Spurs to the playoffs, and earned Rookie of the year. In 1992 David played on the United Stated Olympic Dream Team in Barcelona , winning the gold medal. In 1995 Robinson was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player. But David’s real goal was yet to be accomplished, to be the NBA champions. After many attempts, and failures, his time came in the 98-99

WOODSON COUNTIES, KANSAS. 523 cont'd DAVID ROBINSON. DAVID ROBINSON, Iola's old time painter, was born in Peoria county, Illinois, February 3, 1838. He is the ninth of twelve children and son of George and Maria (Gaylord) Robinson. He was reared upon a farm and was educated in the manner common to the country youth of that day. About the time he was just of age he joined a party and crossed the plains to Colorado and was associated with the western wilds till 1860 when he returned east and stopped in Breckenridge, Missouri. When the war came on he joined Company G, 33rd Missouri regiment of Federals and saw four years of service in the western department of the Union army. His division was the 1st and his corps the 16th and he participated in much hard service and in many warm and severe engagements, chief among them being Helena, Arkansas, Red River expedition, Chico Lake, Tupelo, Nashville and under thirteen days fire at Fts. Spanish and Blakely at Mobile. He was first sergeant of his company at the end of the war. David Robinson spent the few years succeeding the war and until he came to Iola in Galva, Illinois. He learned the painter's trade in his native State and has made it his life work. He followed his brother, Gaylord, to Allen county and reached here in 1870. For thirty years he has wielded the brush in Iola and he is the oldest of the craft in point of residence. He was married here in 1883 to Myra, a daughter of A. L. Dibble, deceased, who came to Iola in 1880. The latter was born in 1827 in the State of New York and was married to M. J. Lord. Of this union three children were born, viz.: N. E. Dibble, of Philadelphia; Delia, who married Willard Lord, and Mrs. Robinson.
