Blueshirt Bulletin Main January 24, 2005 Fleury Beats Rangers! "It felt great, it was a long time coming," said Theo Fleury after scoring a goal and assisting on two others to lead his team to a 6-5 win over the Rangers. The Spirit River Rangers, that is. In his debut for the Horse Lake Thunder, after a long battle to gain eligibility to play in the North Peace senior league of Alberta, Fleury did well. No word on whether he broke any sticks or performed any chicken dances. All the talk all weekend, from players and from pundits, was doom and gloom. The only ray of hope comes from the most impeccable source, Russ Conway of the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune. Conway reports that a Board of Governors meeting was called for next week because "some upper-echelon team executives were concerned that some players thought that there would be no reason to conduct more immediate meetings or negotiations." The NHL's denial of such a meeting may prove true if Gary Bettman is successful, as he has been in the past, in calling them off to avoid having to face the music in front of the owners. Conway followed up that Saturday report with an excellent piece on Sunday. | |
