Our Sponsors Kyle McLaren Sweater #: Position: Defenseman Height: Weight: Shoots: Left Birthdate: June 18, 1977 Birthplace: Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Canada Acquired: Traded from Boston with a 2004 4th round pick (Torrey Mitchell) for Jeff Jillson and Jeff Hackett (who had been previously acquired from Montreal for Niklas Sundstrom) HISTORY Kyle McLaren was drafted ninth overall in the 1995 Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. On October 7, 1995, he made his NHL debut in a match against the Islanders. That rookie season, Kyle played 74 games and tallied 17 points. At year's end, he was named an All-Rookie Team defenceman. In 1996-97, still a teenager, Kyle scored 14 points in 58 games. In 1997-98, he scored 25 points and helped the Bruins improve 30 points under coach of the year Pat Burns. In 1998-99, Kyle tallied 24 points, 205 hits and 69 blocked shots in just 52 games. In 1999-2000, he scored 17 points, knocked 282 hits and blocked 155 shots in 71 games. In 2000-01, Kyle scored 17 points and knocked 156 hits in 58 games. SCOUTING REPORT McLaren is a big physical defenseman that isn't afraid to throw his body around. Likes to lower the boom, but it has taken its toll on his body. Played in only 38 games in 2001-02 because of injury. | |
