Born Edson Arantes Do Nascimento (better known as Pelé) is known as a legend and the best soccer player to ever play the game. He was raised in a very poor family in Tres Coracos, Brazil and his parents, Dondinho and Celeste Nascimento called Edson "Dico," growing up. He first learned the game of soccer from his father, Dondinho, who was a decent center forward until his career was halted by a fractured leg. Pelé began playing soccer for a local minor-league club when he was a teenager. When he wasn't playing soccer he shined shoes for pennies. He was discovered at the age of 11 by one of the country's premier players, Waldemar de Brito. When Brito brought Pelé to Sao Paulo he declared to the disbelieving directors of the professional team in Santos, "This boy will be the greatest soccer player in the world." He was right! Pelé's impact was immediate! On his first appearance for the team, against Corinthians F.C., he scored a goal right away. He was only 16.

PELE - Goddess of Fire. Described as "She-Who-Shapes-The-Sacred-Land" in ancient Hawaiian chants, the volcano goddess, Pele, was passionate, volatile, and capricious. In modern times, Pele has become the most visible of all the old gods and goddesses. Dwelling in the craters of the Big Island's Kilauea Volcano, she has been sending ribbons of fiery lava down the mountainside and adding new land around the southeastern shore almost continuously since 1983.

Arrogant, pompous words. Except when they are spoken by Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the Brazilian genius known throughout the football world as Pele. A veteran of four World Cups, scorer of 1,283 first-class goals - 12 of them in World Cup final tournaments - a member of those magical Brazilian squads that won soccer's greatest prize in 1958, 1962 and 1970. But just as a collection of notes do not make a Beethoven symphony, statistics cannot capture the majesty of those glorious Brazilian sides. This was football played to a samba beat. Beautiful skills, astonishing speed and ball control - and of all those great players in the yellow and green shirts, Pele was the greatest of them all. He was lithe, agile, strong and seemed to be able to make the ball do as he pleased. Blessed with a stunning shot and an ability to soar above defences, he was expected to perform some astonishing feat of trickery every time he was in possession.

Her poetic name, Ka wahine `ai honua, the woman who devours the land, is both creator and destroyer. She throws molten fountains into the air, governs the great flows of lava, and has been known to reveal herself throughout the island of Hawaii. Pele is a goddess of fire, lightning, dance, volcanoes and violence. No Kahiki mai ka wahine `o Pele, Mai ka `aina mai o Polapola, Mai ka punohu a Kane, Mai ke ao lapa i ka lani. Pele, the Hawaiian (Polynesian) goddess of the volcano, was born in Honua-Mea, part of Tahiti. Pele Io's most distinctive feature is unquestionably the volcanic center, Pele. Pele is the site of an ongoing, high-velocity volcanic eruption. Deposits of sulfurous materials from Pele's plume are ejected out to more than 600 km (375 miles) from the vent. Its plume is nearly invisible, except in back-lit photographs, and it is thought to be an example of a stealth plume. Stealth plumes occur when the sulfur dioxide gas in the volcanic vent is at a very high temperature. Upon being expelled from the vent, the gas rapidly expands resulting in an undetectable, high-velocity jet of cold gas from which no snow is produced. This is a temperature map of the Pele region imaged by the infrared spectrometer onboard the Galileo spacecraft. Red indicates the hottest lava flows, and purple represents cooler areas. The hottest lava flow temperatures recorded are approximately 1400 K (2000 Fahrenheit), which is similar to the temperatures of basaltic flows found on Hawaii's Kilauea volcano. This image shows an outline of fresh, hot lava that follows the margin of Pele's caldera. Scientists believe that the Pele caldera is filled with liquid lava and has a floating crust. The lava lake appears to be confined to the dark southern part of the caldera which covers an area of about 15 km by 10 km (10 miles by 6 miles). Most of the lava lake is covered by a cooler crust that floats on top of the molten lava. The behavior of this lake is similar to that of Hawaiian lava lakes, although Pele's lake covers an area several thousand times larger than the lava lakes in Hawaii.

Stratix  II GX transceivers provide highly configurable pre-emphasis and equalization circuitry to compensate for transmission line losses and allow successful transmission at up to 6.375 Gbps. However, every channel is different, which leads to unique settings on each link. The only accurate way to determine the optimum settings is to either perform an HSPICE simulation or to use Altera’s Signal Integrity Kit , but this can be extremely time-consuming because a large number of different settings must be assessed, with simulation cycle times measured in hours. Finding the best settings to equalize system components requires multiple iterations until the best eye diagram is found. Altera's pre-emphasis and equalization link estimator (PELE) technology can take weeks off a standard simulation process and greatly improve simulation accuracy. It uses correlated models developed specifically for Altera’s transceivers, along with user-defined output drive voltage settings and scattering parameters (S-parameters) in Touchstone format. The S-parameters are taken from either a PCB layout or from bench measurements to calculate the optimum pre-emphasis and equalization settings.

19. Brazilian Soccer Player Pele
Apart from his popularity, Pelé s life story is the ultimate soccer dream. He began as a poor boy from the slums in Tres Coracoes, Brazil but earned fame

-quotes -interview
elé is the first soccer player to achieve massive international acclaim. His name is regularly mentioned today, more than a quarter century after his retirement.
Thanks to Pelé's sensational scoring, his club Santos earned the Intercontinental Cup in 1962 and 1963. At the 1962 World Cup in Chile, Pelé missed out most of the tournament due to an injury. Brazil still managed to win the trophy. At World Cup 1966, Pele was once again was forced to permanently leave the pitch after being ferociously tackled.
After England 1966, many began to doubt the Brazilian soccer player and his superstar status. He made a triumphant return at Mexico 1970 by dazzling audiences worldwide. This was the first World Cup broadcast in color and was shown across an unprecedented number of countries. In front of over 100,000 spectators at Azteca Stadium and millions of TV viewers, Pelé scored the first goal of the 1970 World Cup final. That opened the floodgates to Brazil's crushing 4-1 victory and reclaimed Pele as the "King of Soccer".
Later in the 1970's, Pelé was signed by the New York Cosmos in the North American Soccer League. He eventually retired as the only player with over 1000 goals in professional football. Pele was the first commercial superstar of non-commercial soccer.
