Romario: I’ve done it all
(FIFA.com) Tuesday 31 July 2007 Print Email to a friend Share After a career spanning more than 20 years that has yielded, by his own calcuations, 1,000 goals, Brazilian legend Romario is preparing to hang up his scoring boots. One of the most charismatic players of his generation, the 41-year-old sharpshooter is keen to pursue new challenges, while staying involved with the beautiful game. O Baixinho FIFA.com about his footballing career, the current Brazilian national team, what it meant to score his 1,000th goal and his country's plans for 2014. FIFA.com: Romario, the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014... How does that sound?
Romario: Interesting. It would mean a great deal to our country, not only from a footballing point of view but from a political, economical and educational perspective too. We all hope that, from the moment FIFA decide the 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil, a lot of things will change for the better. It's going to be very important for the Brazilian people as a whole. A World Cup in Brazil is really something. When the talk turns to which Brazilian stadiums will be used to host the event, the ones that spring to mind are the Mineirao, the Morumbi and of course the Maracana. Even so, the CBF intend to construct four new stadiums in the north east and renovate grounds across the whole country. If these plans were implemented, would Brazil be totally ready to host the 2014 competition?

Romario claims to play for Flamengo www.chinaview.cn Print BRASILIA, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) Brazilian soccer legend Romario claimed on Saturday he will part ways with Vasco and play for Flamengo. After a meeting on Saturday with Flamengo vice-president KleberLeite, the forward spoke of playing for the team in the Rio Cup and the Libertadores Cup. "Yesterday, the chances of me playing for Flamengo were minimal. However, things changed today. Kleber made me a great offer, including a future with the club. If I am able to fulfill my contract with Vasco, that ends March 30th, then I will play in the Rio Cup. I think that I will be able to play in at least three or four games," said Romario. The future of the team's propaganda is already counting on the fact that Romario will come to play for Flamengo. He would receive his own TV program on Fla-TV and would be the poster boy for the team. The country, and world, will be able to watch a series of farewell games by the player. "I've been with Vasco for three years and they have never presented a project to me discussing the future. Vasco has no plans for me," added the player.

The Bald Truth About Romario's Drug Test
Wednesday, December 5, 2007; Page E02 Brazilian soccer star Romario attributed his failed drug test to a substance found in anti-balding medication. The 41-year-old striker for Vasco da Gama said yesterday in Rio De Janeiro he tested positive for the banned substance finasteride in October. He said he had been using the drug, whose active ingredient is Propecia, to prevent hair loss. The drug is banned by the World Anti-Doping Code because it can mask the use of anabolic steroids. Romario, the 1994 FIFA player of the year, said an anti-balding medication triggered his positive drug test. The striker now plays for Vasco da Gama. (2006 Photo By Mark Kolbe Getty Images)
