John K. Dyer John K. Dyer, age 76 of 308 N. 8th, Quincy, died Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 5:47 p.m. in his home. He was born February 25, 1928 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Floyd and Cynthia Jenkins Dyer. He served 2 years in the Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. President Jackson. He received the President's Medal and the Purple Heart. He worked 38 years for the railroad and retired from the Burlington-Northern as a switchman. He was a member of the Eagles, V.F.W., a life time member of the United Transportation Union, and was a former member of the Northside Boat Club and the Quincy Gun Club. John was an avid hunter and commercial fisherman.. Survivors include a special friend of many years, Roberta Watkins and his dog Foxy of Quincy; 3 sons, John K. Dyer II, Bruce K. Dyer and his wife Karen, Sam Dyer and his wife Kathy; 3 daughters, Deborah Wiegmann, Deanna Freeman and her husband Larry, and Brenda Orebaugh all of Quincy; 16 grandchildren,and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Susan Dyer, a grandson Eric Dabney, 3 brothers Floyd 'Bub', Charles and Donald Dyer, and 3 sisters Rosemary White, Ethel Brajkovich and Naomi Dyer in infancy. Graveside services will be Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at 2 p.m. in Union Cemetery, Bevier, Missouri with the Rev. Eugene Stueve officiating. Visitation will be Monday, January 10, from 3 - 8 p.m. in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice. | |
