Apr-03-06, 07:28 AM (EST) "Demonstration for the volume of the pyramid?"
For some time I ask myself why the volume of the pyramid is 1/3*B*h. That the volume is directly proportional to the Area "B" and the height "h" seems reasonable enough but the 1/3 puzzled me. I know some different demonstrations for it but I wasn’t completely satisfied with them. Most probably this "new" demonstration is not new but since I liked it and can't find it on the web I think it may be of interest to someone. (If you already seen this demonstration somewhere else please tell me so) First let's pick a rectangular prism with square base ABCD and truncate it with a plane not parallel to the base. Let's say that at each vertice ABCD the solid has heights h_a, h_b, h_c and h_d. We can show using some geometry that (h_a + h_c)/2 = (h_b + h_d)/2 = "height at the center of the square" then "average height" = (h_a + h_b + h_c + h_d)/4 = (h_a + h_c)/2 = (h_b + h_d)/2.

Adaptation to Concrete Geometry
Here we provide the traits classes for the adaptation to concrete geometry. Note that we use the slots POINT and SPHERE as an additional instantiation template parameter in delaunay as we use those types also in the interface. We give first a traits class with slots which have to be implemented.
The Traits Class for the planar case
We instantiate the 2-dimensional Delaunay triangulation by the LEDA 2 d and 3 d kernel objects and for the first two template arguments and and for the third and fourth template argument. We use the 3 d traits class described in [ ] for the sixth template argument. In some cases we have to do some primitive programming. However adaption is pretty easy. Note that in this case most of the primitives are calculated by filtered integer arithmetic.

The Traits Class for the higher dimensional case
We aim for a low memory consumption and therefore want to avoid to store every point coordinate twice (once at the vertices of the internally kept hull and once at the vertices of the projected Delaunay triangulation). We define a class

Yutaka Hosotani (School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Minnesota), Ryuichi Nakayama (Department of Physics, Hokkaido University) The Hamilton-Jacobi formalism of bosonic strings and superstrings is given. Classical motion of strings is described by local fields. Connection to quantum string fields is also explored.

Incorporating Lorentz-Violating Terms into the Standard Model
An extension of the standard model that incorporates small Lorentz-breaking terms is presented. The terms are assumed to arise through spontaneous symmetry breaking in a fundamental theory underlying the standard model. A consistent quantization of the theory is developed, and the restriction to quantum electrodynamics is discussed. Proposed bounds on the parameters using high precision measurements are explored.
