In the decade since her first book, she has published exactly two novels, but Donna Tartt took the literary world by storm in 1992 when the publicity surrounding the release of The Secret History came close to overshadowing the novel itself, which depicts the murder of a student at a small college in Vermont by his fellow Greek classics classmates.
In the fall of 1981, she entered the University of Mississippi in Oxford as a freshman, where one of her stories caught the attention of Willie Morris Barry Hannah (also a writer-in-resident at the university) admitted Tartt as a freshman into his graduate short story course where, Hannah says, she outperformed the graduate students. At the urging of Morris and others, Tartt transferred after her freshman year from Ole Miss to

I just finished reading the amazing novel THE SECRET HISTORY by Donna Tartt, which was published in 1992. She has subsequently published one other novel, THE LITTLE FRIEND, in 2002 (which I have not read). I think she's about 30 years old now. Anyway, I was searching the Web for information about her, and came across three photographs that I thought bore a striking resemblance to Liz, even in terms of composure and fashion.
Like I said, it's a completely frivolous topic. The book is excellent, though. I highly recommend it.

The Secret History of Donna Tartt
    By Mark Coles, Arts Correspondent.
Compiling one of those inevitable end-of-millennium lists of favourite authors and books, someone mentioned Donna Tartt's - The Secret History - only to met with a chorus of "What on earth's happened to her".
Every one of us there had read her debut novel - a murder mystery about a group of Greek Classics students in Vermont who kill one of their classmates and try to cover it up. It had been a publishing phenomenon when it came out back in 1992 - sitting at the top of the best sellers list for months. Then silence. Nothing more was heard from her. No second novel - not even a hint of one in the offing. There is nothing new in writers who struggle to follow up early success. Remember Joseph Heller, (Catch 22) , Ralph Ellison (Invisible Man) or Henry Roth (Call It Sleep). The writer Arundhati Roy says she might never follow up her Booker Prize winning debut "The God Of Small Things". The British novelist Martin Amis thinks the pressure on writers today is far greater than it was in the past.

She was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, and grew up in the small town of Grenada. On her mother’s side, she came from a traditional Southern family. As a child, Tartt escaped into the world of books, particularly Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie and boys’ adventure stories by Sir Walter Scott Jules Verne , and Robert Louis Stevenson ; she also immersed herself in the novels of Charles Dickens and Rudyard Kipling . In the memoir of her childhood, “A Southern Gothic Childhood, with Codeine”, published in 1992 in Harper’s magazine, Tartt describes how as a sick 5-year-old, she spent two years in an opium-induced dream state after being dosed up with codeine cold cure by her great-grandfather.

In cursul reconstituirii unei bacanale antice, ei ajung sa omoare... Editura
