    The African Arts Platform Biography - Valentine Magutsa
    Valetine Magutsa is a celebrated artist that blends realism with abstraction. Born in the the rural town of Chipinge, Zimbabwe in 1975, the artist has been deeply influenced by his natural surrounding that remains a recurring theme in his paintings.
    His work is characterized by very rich textures on unique backdrops of hessian cloth, card or canvas using mixed media of gouache, acrylic and pastels. Colored with figurative expressions enhanced by natural materials, his works expresses his sentiments on the social, economic and political atmosphere surrounding his country.
    While emerging as a promising artist in Zimbabwe, Magutsa’s work has enriched the collections of clients in the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, Canada and the USA. He has had two solo exhibitions and his work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in his homeland. A true humanist one of his major works “Don’t Be Cruel” is a major display at the Society for Prevention of Cruelty of Animals in Zimbabwe.
    His list of honors include the “Overall Award of Distinction” for painting from the National Gallery in Mutare for two consecutive years as well as the “Award for Merit”.
