Through innovative programs and practices, Atlantic Anesthesia delivers consistent and proven high quality health care, which translates into excellent results for the patients, surgeons and hospitals we serve.
Innovation
Commitment
Our strong community involvement stems from the founder of our practice, Julius J. Snyder, MD, who was the first anesthesiologist to practice at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Other anesthesiologists joined the practice from the surrounding area, and we continue to grow the practice in that way today by seeking professionals who are dedicated to our region and committed to the long-term well-being of the people of Hampton Roads. Many of our CRNAs have come from training programs in the area, including Old Dominion University and Virginia Commonwealth University, establishing a firm commitment to service in the area.
Excellence
With strong ties to the community for more than forty years, Atlantic Anesthesia has built lasting relationships with your surgeons, Sentara Hospitals, and the operating room team who have come to rely on our constant support. We are very proud that the top 100 surgeons we work with recently rated us a 4.44 on a 5.00 scale as we delivered high volume care across a spectrum of settings including multiple outpatient surgical centers, trauma centers, high risk obstetrical centers, and numerous centers of excellence for surgical subspecialties.

A child wonders what the first day of school will be like. Someone is about to start a new job. A young couple is about to be married. Each of these situations is a classic anxiety producer. What they have in common is that each involves the unknown. And that's what anxiety is: the fear of a specific upcoming event that, in all likelihood, you've never before experienced.
The Less You Worry, the Easier it Will Be
An upcoming visit to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is another potential anxiety producer. In this case, the patient is typically most concerned about possible pain—whether the procedure is going to hurt. The good news is that whether your procedure requires local or intravenous anesthesia, today's technology makes it possible to perform complex surgery in the oral and maxillofacial surgery office with little or no discomfort for the patient. Knowing this should start to reduce your level of anxiety.
Extensive Training and Experience in the Control of Pain and Anxiety
Commonly, patients describe their feelings during surgery as comfortable and surprisingly pleasant

Description
The Journal of Clinical Anesthesia (JCA) addresses all aspects of anesthesia practice, including anesthetic administration, pharmacokinetics, preoperative and postoperative considerations, coexisting disease and other complicating factors, cost issues, and similar concerns anesthesiologists contend with daily. Exceptionally high standards of presentation and accuracy are maintained. The core of the journal is original contributions on subjects relevant to clinical practice, and rigorously peer-reviewed. Highly respected international experts have joined together to form the Editorial Board, sharing their years of experience and clinical expertise. Specialized section editors cover the various subspecialties within the field. To keep your practical clinical skills current, the journal bridges the gap between the laboratory and the clinical practice of anesthesiology and critical care to clarify how new insights can improve daily practice.

International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management
The International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM) is an inclusive group of likeminded compassionate animal health care providers from around the world. The IVAPM is open to any and all interested individuals. Advanced animal pain management is one of the least well understood and least well addressed aspects of veterinary practice. Effective pain management creates a framework that increases the quality and extends the duration of a pet's life. Even in the human profession, where pain management associations have been focused on the importance of human pain management for 35 years, they consider pain management one of the least well managed aspects of human health care. The IVAPM needs your support. We need to form a collective voice to help carry this important message forward to the profession and the pet owning public. The Hospital Discount group membership fees are very affordable!

General Anesthesia
Q:What is general anesthesia? A: General anesthesia is a management technique that uses medications to cause the child to become unconscious and asleep while receiving dental care. It is provided by a physician or dentist who has special training in anesthesia. Q:Who should receive dental care with general anesthesia? A: Children with severe anxiety and/or inability to cooperate are candidates for general anesthesia. These children may be young or have compromised health or special needs. They usually require extensive dental treatment and their anxiety cannot be controlled with conscious sedation techniques. Q:Is general anesthesia safe? A: Although there is some risk associated with general anesthesia, it is safe when administered by an appropriately trained individual in an appropriately equipped facility. Many precautions are taken to provide safety for the child during general anesthesia care. Patients are monitored closely during the general anesthesia procedure by personnel who are trained to manage complications. Your pediatric dentist will discuss the benefits and risks involved in general anesthesia and why it is recommended for your child. Q:What special considerations are associated with the general anesthesia appointment?
