Market Square is a new building with an old soul. The property was conceived in response to Mayor Jerry Brown's "10K Housing Initiative" a visionary plan to bring 10,000 new residents to Downtown Oakland to create a vibrant urban community convenient to shopping, dining, arts, entertainment, and public transportation. Market Square's site was once the home to Oakland's historic "Housewives Market", a collective of individual grocery vendors that have served the area for nearly 100 years. The Oakland Housewives Market merchants have been relocated by the city across the street to the newly restored Swan's Market building, where they continue to provide renowned quality goods and personalized service to the community.

A short history of how I became interested in Architecture
The beginning of my interest in Application Architecture can be traced back to the time when I first discovered programming. I remember picking up a book on C++ and being so intrigued that I decided to go back to school for Computer Science within a week of finishing it. After my first semester of CS classes my father sent me a book on Design Patterns . I flipped through it, confused by coding that I had not been exposed to and dense, confusing language. Something that was completely lost on me at the time would turn out years later to be one of the most influential books I have ever read. Several years later, while at my second programming job, I was working on my first fairly large team and I was responsible for a large number of Servlets and the business logic behind them. I found myself doing the same work over and over again, and when requirements would change I frequently had to change similar code in dozens of locations. School had taught me reuse through encapsulation, but there was a system in place that dictated how much I could reasonably do within its confines. I suddenly understood both the benefits and inherit constraints of a framework. I immediately went and proposed a simple system to my lead and we implemented it that week. It was shortly after this time I rediscovered design patterns. I dove in to both the inner workingings of the Java API and the concepts of design simultaneously.

Post modern historicism seeks a reconnection with the human and historical character of architecture before modernism. After studying the Post Modern Historicism tutorials you will understand that historicist references per se are not new. However, Post Modern Historicism refers only to work since the Modern movement and has a variety of intentions.

    Reflection of History in Architecture
Not all of the old factory’s structures date to the same period. Their style is not uniform. However, all of them testify to much attention having been paid to progressive architectural solutions. The Museum’s structures include buildings with richly decorated stucco facades, cast-iron columns, and wooden roof trusses, as well as reinforced concrete frame structures with the charm and romantic appearance of old-time industrial structures (not to forget to mention riveted crane tracks, steel frames, and cast-iron factory windows). All of the practical and functional elements and examples of one-time craftsmanship have been preserved. Exhibition

    Architecture History
Architectural history is a discipline which records, studies and interprets architecture. It studies, its forms, purposes and most importantly its evolution. We are lucky that since ancient times architecture has been observed and recorded because understanding architectural history enables us to understand the society and culture they represent which is a very useful when working as a contemporary architect. Comparing and studying ancient and modern or contemporary architecture is essential. It allows an architect to consider a buildings or cities as more than a visual phenomenon, and, therefore, architect would have a more fundamental and culturally inclusive approach to architecture than an approach based purely on architect's own taste or style especially as they apply to green buildings. Studying history of architecture is, therefore, extremely important because unlike studying history in other disciplinary groups, the purpose of studying the history of architecture when practicing contemporary architecture is to understand how architecture influences society and its culture. In other words, students can by studying the history of architecture understand how and why each era since the beginning of time has its own unique style. ''Why'' is what really must be understood in order to produce the kind of a architecture our contemporary society need because architectural should reflects the philosophies prevalent at any given time. However, architectural history, like any other form of historical study, is subject to the limitations and potentialities of history as a discipline.

Architecture first evolved out of the dynamics between needs (shelter, security, worship, etc.) and means (available building materials and attendant skills). Prehistoric and primitive architecture constitute this early stage. As humans progressed and knowledge began to be formalised through oral traditions and practices, architecture evolved into a craft. Here there is first a process of trial and error, and later improvisation or replication of a successful trial. The architect is not the sole important figure; he is merely part of a continuing tradition. What is termed as Vernacular architecture today falls under this mode and still continues to be produced in many parts of the world.
With the Renaissance and its emphasis on the individual and humanity rather than religion, and with all its attendant progress and achievements, a new chapter began. Buildings were ascribed to specific architects - Michaelangelo, Brunelleschi, Leonardo da Vinci - and the cult of the individual had begun. But there was no dividing line between artist, architect and engineer, or any of the related vocations. At this stage, it was still possible for an artist to design a bridge as the level of structural calculations involved were within the scope of the generalist.
With the consolidation of knowledge in scientific fields such as engineering and the rise of new materials and technology, the architect began to lose ground on the technical aspects of building. He therefore cornered for himself another playing field - that of aesthetics. There was the rise of the "gentleman architect" who usually dealt with wealthy clients and concentrated predominantly on visual qualities derived usually from historical prototypes. In the 19th century Ecole des Beaux Arts in France, the training was toward producing quick sketch schemes involving beautiful drawings without much emphasis on context.
