Play this game with extreme caution! Can be very habit-forming! Use the keyboard controls described below to maneuver your ship, destroying as many asteroids as you can while avoiding collision with them. Also watch for the flying saucers armed with guided missles. If you warp into hyperspace, your ship will momentarily disappear then reappear on another part of the screen, gradually fading in. During this time the ship is invunerable. Likewise, when your ship is destroyed, a new one will appear in the center of the screen. You can still maneuver and fire during this time so if you are in imminent danger, you have a couple of seconds to get out of it. How To Use

    http://hamilton.dm.unipi.it/cgi-bin/astdys/astibo
This web site provides data on numbered and multiopposition asteroids, including orbital elements, their uncertainty, proper elements, and so on.
The following catalogs are updated every month. The last monthly update has been based upon the observational data released by the MPC, containing the observations performed until April 20, 2008 . The orbits are always recomputed when and if new observations are available, with the OrbFit free software . Note that the current operational AstDyS system is using the Fortran 95 version of the software; thus the format of the observation files [astname].rwo has been changed and cannot be read with the Fortran 77 version of the sofware. The format of the orbital elements files has not been changed.

Asteroids was released in Upright, Cocktail and Cabaret cabinets. There was also a small number of "Gold Asteroids" games(maybe only one). The game was made to commemorate the 50,000th Asteroids game produced.
    Game Description
Asteroids sits right up there with Pac-Man and Space Invaders as a classic. From the hypnotic bass to the swarming asteroid field this game had every intention of success. The production run for this game exceeded 70,000!! units. Asteroids was so popular that the production line for Lunar Lander was switched over to producing Asteroids games, this is why some Asteroids are in Lunar Lander cabinets (about 200 were done this way!).
Your mission is basically to reduce the floating asteroids down to rubble and finally dust. Each asteroid when shot breaks into two smaller ones. As you create your destruction you must avoid enemy flying saucers that will try and shoot you down. The saucers come in two flavors, large and small. The large ones of course easier to hit and are much less accurate with their lasers, while the smaller saucers are quick and accurate(they also score 1000 points, motivation for saucer hunting). When you clear the level, alas... more asteroids appear, and in greater numbers.

When Macromedia released Flash MX, I couldn't wait to play with it. With its new drawing features and ability to create movie clips in ActionScript, I was all aglow with accomplishing "the impossible": making the classic arcade game Asteroids completely with code, just as Atari did it over 20 years ago. Within a surprisingly short amount of time I was able to accomplish this small feat. This article explains how you can do it too. I call this game "Asteroids MX." Although you should feel free to build the game no matter how comfortable you think you are with ActionScript, I do assume you're familiar with the fundamentals of programming. If you're unfamiliar with programming basics (arrays, functions, assigning values to variables) or some basic elements of ActionScript (dot-syntax, assigning

Based on the composition of meteorites found on the Earth, most asteroids may be composed of three materials: mostly (92.8 percent) silicates (stone); metals (5.7 percent) iron and nickel; and the rest as a mix of the those materials and carbon-rich substances. Asteroids located closer to Mars and Earth that exhibit the same spectra are composed of rocky minerals ("stone") mixed with iron. In contrast, asteroids located farther away from the Sun on the Jupiter side of the Main Asteroid Belt are generally darker and redder, presumably because they were not well heated by the Sun and so have a composition more like the primordial, circum-Solar dust disk out of which the planets accreted about 4.5 billion years ago. Thus, the outer asteroids may more closely resemble the icy planetary bodies of the Edgeworth-Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud. 951 Gaspra The larger asteroids or protoplanets may have accumulated enough internal heat to "differentiate," whereby denser metals settled downwards (and perhaps even form metallic cores) and left lighter rocky ("stoney") residues in their outer layers. On some asteroids, internal heat may also have formed metamorphosized rocks, and volcanoes may even have erupted. Although no asteroid in the Main Belt grew big enough to hold on to an atmosphere, minerals found in some meteorites suggest that liquid water was often present.

As an example of the economic value of space resources, let's consider the smallest known M-type asteroid, the near-Earth asteroid known as 3554 Amun (two kilometers in diameter): The iron and nickel in Amun have a market value of about $8,000 billion, the cobalt content adds another $6,000 billion, and the platinum-group metals add another $6,000 billion.
    Mining the Sky
There are two things you need to know about asteroids:
    • Asteroids can make us extinct (the threat). Asteroids can make us rich and provide homes for trillions of people (the promise).
    The Promise
There are vast numbers of asteroids in near-Earth orbits, some of which are easier to access than the Moon. The potential mineral wealth of these asteroids is so great that huge profits could be made once we can start mining them for materials to be sold to markets on Earth. Like space solar power , this is one of the potential revenue sources for the large startup costs for the first space settlements.
