Australian History
Early History 17th Century 18th Century 19th Century ... 21st Century EARLY HISTORY 50,000 BC The first settlers are thought to have arrived around 50,000 years ago. This would have most likely been at a time when the sea levels were low, the land was more humid and animals larger. Although much of Australia became populated, the central dry areas didn't attract settlers until around 25,000 years ago. The population grew proportionately quicker around 10,000 years ago as the climate improved.
How to Play the Didgeridoo
At the time of British settlement at Sydney Cove it is estimated that 300,000 aboriginal people, speaking around 250 languages inhabited Australia.

Hopefully I ll still post some history stuff this year. AUSTRALIAN HISTORY info from: www.lonelyplanet.com THE DEATH FLEETS
The people that are native to Australia are called Aboriginies. They lived in Australia in tribes. Their lives were disrupted when James Cook, the first man to land on Australia, arrived and claimed the land for the King of England. There was a lot of conflict between the settlers and the Aborigines, very much like what occurred in America.
The King decided that he didn't like the land, so he sent convicts, or people that have committed crimes, to Australia after the American War of Independence. The First Fleet of convicts came and soon after their arrival, diseases spread rapidly. After a while, the convicts desperately needed supplies.
Almost fifty convicts died before the Second Fleet arrived. Even though the Second Fleet brought fresh supplies, close to 300 convicts died between the First and Second Fleets. For this reason, the first convict ships are called the "Death Fleet".
In present-day Australia, January 26 is Australia Day, a holiday for some. For others, it is a day of mourning and protest because the founding of Australia led to disease and death.

Brief Australian History Thor May 2006
1. The aboriginal people were established in Australia by 45,000 years ago. Some may have been Australia up to 60,000 years ago. 2. Aboriginal people were hunter-gatherers. They did not live in one place, and they did not have houses. The land was too harsh for permanent settlement. Aborigines lived in small groups. Each group had a large territory (or "nation"). Their religion was complex, and closely linked to the 'spirit of the land'. 3. European (English) people first settled in Australia about 200 years ago. 4. The industrial revolution in England in the 18th Century caused millions of people to move from farming to the new cities. There was no social security. The cities were unhealthy and dangerous. Working conditions were terrible : up to 16 hours a day for very low wages. There was a lot of unemployment and a lot of crime. The rich ruling classes were very afraid and used the law harshly. So many poor people were put in prison that the prisons filled up. 5. For a while, the British government sent ships full of prisoners to America. However, after the American war of independence (1775–1783), America was no longer part of the British empire. Britain had no place to send its prisoners.

Australian History began in 1770 when Captain James Cook (sometimes known as "the Naked Captain" or "Jamie Cook") first invented Australia. real person, by which of course is meant an Englishman , first came here in 1770 and claimed the country for the King. Australia was claimed under the law of Terra Nulla Nulla As a result, the illegal immigrants who tried to pre-emptively steal our country about 60,000 years ago - and who have since been suspected of terra-ism - were placed in indefinite detention. The first detention facility which was built was called Long Bay and it has always been used almost exclusively for the incarceration of aboriginals - for your protection. The King always claimed that the aboriginal people were hiding Weapons of Mass Destruction and because it was the King we agreed with him. We looked for a long time, but the jury was still out for about 150 years, but eventually in the 1950s or whenever we managed to dig up their huge caches of nuclear materials they'd been hiding and sell them to people we could trust, like the French, the Chinese, the Pakistanis and the Indians. In the meantime we got the English to come here and nuke their land with a taste of shockin' awe. 1,000 miles away it made a sound like "Wooom! or "Woomprah!" "Woomerah!" so that's what we called it. Just to show them who was boss and if they didn't want us to go there, we'd make damn sure they couldn't either for a couple of hundred thousand years.

A Brief History of Olives in Australia (Adapted from the April 1997 issue of Australian Olive Grower) The history of olive farming in Australia dates back to the early 1800's . Olives were probably first planted in groves around in Parramatta near Sydney. Olives and olive oil have been traded among the civilizations throughout the world for centuries, so it seems probable that many of the ships arriving on our shores would have carried some olive trees for planting. All the states and territories, excluding Tasmania were planted with some varieties of olive trees during the 1800s. During this period, South Australia and Victoria were the states where most of the planting was going on and they were considered the leaders at that time.South Australia began to lead the charge of the olive industry back in the 1830s. Between 1830 and 1850 trees had come in from France, Rio de Janeiro and Sicily. One company took delivery of five varieties from Marseilles. These trees went on to produce oil which won honourable mention at the London Exhibition of 1851. Also, the Stonyfell Olive Oil Company of South Australia won
