Indian Army aviators head for Congo on UN deployment
Mar 5 2007 Malaysia Sun (IANS) report: Seventy Indian Army aviators leave here Sunday for the Congo for deployment as UN peacekeepers in the country's restive Katanga province on what has been described as a 'dangerous and important' mission.
'You are going on a dangerous and important mission. It is important for you to maintain high standards of discipline and professionalism,' Lt. Gen. K.S. Jamwal, who heads the Indian Army's Kolkata-based Eastern Command, said at the flagging off ceremony of the contingent here Monday.
'It is a matter of pride that you should have been chosen for this challenging assignment,' he added.
Jamwal is the colonel commandant of the Army Aviation Corps to which the 12 officers, six junior commissioned officers, and 52 other ranks of the Congo-bound ninth (Independent) Reconnaissance and Observation Flight belong.
'We have a heavy responsibility on our shoulders. It will be our endeavour to give of our best,' the contingent commander, Lt. Col. G.S. Sheokand, told IANS.

Bruno Kubler, whose firm is handling the bankruptcy, said he understands why Diamond customers are upset, but the "current disconcertion on the part of the customers is attributable to a disinformation campaign initiated by the airplane manufacturer Diamond Aircraft. In the past few days Diamond repeatedly let it be said that I was not very cooperative in negotiations and did not seem very interested in securing the TAE business in the long term." What Is A Canard?
Well, in French it's a duck. To others (including quite a few French people) it 's a very slick composite airplane that is relatively inexpensive to build, and that gets you around at amazing speeds with excellent economy. It also looks really cool. The only similarity to ducks is that they fly (just much MUCH faster) and that they occasionally eat grass. There are numerous variants of the canard airplane ranging from the small, but very fast VariEZ, the larger two seat tandem LongEZ, the three seat Cozy III and the four seat Cozy IV. These planes are all "plans-built". Then there are the kit planes, the Velocity, the SQ2000 and a few others. more...

"Serving Youth Through Aviation"

MISSION STATEMENT: To provide scholarships to underprivileged boys and girls in the areas of flight training and aviation maintenance and repair, as well as providing physically handicapped children with the opportunity to experience the exhilaration and joy of aviation. Flights are available, which include the provision of transportation and a medical support staff, to supervise those children requiring special attention. PURPOSE: The Stephen M. Price Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation formed for and dedicated to providing an avenue into the Aviation Industry for underprivileged boys and girls in Jacksonville Florida, who have the desire, but not the financial means, to train in this field. Scholarships are provided in the areas of flight training and aviation maintenance and repair, with the ultimate goal of future job placement for these youth within the community, made possible through our Aviation Partners. This complete Aeronautical Training Program, known as the "Young Aviators" Program, is made possible through the dedicated efforts of our volunteers; certified flight instructors, aircraft inspectors and aviation mechanics. ANOTHER STUDENT SOLOS After many hours of training, Robert Blair solos and looses the back of his shirt. The significant of cutting the back of his shirt is an old aviation custom that goes back to the early days of aviation training when there were no radios or intercoms and the instructor sat behind the student. The instructor would tug on the students shirt to get his attention. When the student reached the point of being able to fly without the instructor, the instructor would cut the back of the shirt, sign it, and hang it on the wall in the flight school. Our Director of Flight training, Mr. Joel Weaner, is doing the honors to Robert Blair after his first solo.
