Canadian Culture
Why are we tsktsking about what is happening to people from other cultures, within their culture, when they come here? I mean, obviously, the failing is ours as a society if women from elsewhere in the world AND/OR women who are native born to Canada are being murdered in our midst by men who see it as their right - for any reason. It seems to me we are much less than we think we are with our insistence on protecting religion - all religion - as we do here in Canada. Rights and freedoms belong to individuals, not Institutions. for everyone My aunt visited us all the way from Canada. Well actually, she came here 1 month ago and took care of my grandpa, from the moment he was out of hospital until his last moments, from the funeral to the burial.
And she brought with her my 4-year old cousin. I only saw my cuz when he was still a baby. SO I was surprised, excited, and thrilled to talk with him.
When I approached him I was touched and shocked 'cause he knew my name.
Hello kuya Mike. Do you like hotdogs?
Those were the first words he addressed to me. No thanks , I said, thanks for the offer.
Man, he talks slang, really. Haha, and it's very funny, he even likes to insult people...
Hey, I saw your underwear! It's pink, with flowers and butterflies and bears!
And he'll give you the look, the sarcastic yet serious tone, and the cold blank stare.
And when I turned his joke back to him, he got mad.

www.culture.ca This is a fantastic site that is great for all Canadians. By clicking on the Aboriginal tab the site opens into a rich source of material on the First Nations people from all across Canada. This is good example of the use of technology to preserve the culture and history of the people of Canada, including the aboriginal people. There are topics here that will appeal to most anyone. I found that some of the articles helped provide a deeper understanding of Canada's First Nations people. Posted by Alan Kilistoff on May 27, 2007 9:05 AM Permalink

New Reply As I´ve lived around the world, I have been asked this question numerous times and in reality it´s quite difficult to answer as we are a very new country made up of immigrants. Part of our culture is just that, we have a million cultures and every possible type of food your heart desires. There are obviously the stereotypical Canadian cultural aspects like Hockey and Skiing and hiking and biking. We are usually known as very polite, if not too polite. We speak English and French. We don´t really have any canadian dishes except in Quebec there is ´poutine´, which is really yummy - fries withe melted cheese and gravy. barb 14 June 2007, 07:23:43 pm New Reply

Valley 11-19-2005, 07:37 PM The recent comments by Harold Stone on the Market Square renaming may have brought to light some underlying antisemitic feelings in Kingston. Its not clear from reading the CKWS-TV transcript (see below) that this was intended by Mr. Stone. However, it does muddy the waters on an issue that deserves informed debate entirely on its own merits. A fully transparent debate on this issue might have gone a long way to prevent even the semblance of this kind of racist ugliness in our community.
