I. Cerebral Palsy – Information
Cerebral Palsy is a condition caused by damage to the brain, usually occurring immediately before, during or shortly after birth. The term Cerebral Palsy is not a diagnosis, but rather it provides a useful therapeutic classification for children with involuntary movements, in coordination and static spastic paresis. It is not curable, but with therapy, education and extensive medical assistance, some patients with Cerebral Palsy can adjust and lead productive lives. However, those with severe Cerebral Palsy, unfortunately, their lives may be totally dependent on the assistance of families, medical communities and others entities for their entire lives.

Cerebral Palsy
A group of disorders caused by an injury to the brain before, during, or shortly after birth. In
many cases, it is not known for sure what caused the brain injury. Cerebral Palsy (CP) is used
to describe a medical condition that affects control of the muscles. Cerebral means anything in
the head and palsy refers to the inability of control to muscles or joints in the body.
Cerebral Palsy covers a spectrum of symptoms which vary in severity. A child with cerebral
palsy may have difficulty with fine motor skills, such as writing, gross motor skills (sustaining
balance and walking), or be affected by involuntary movements, such as uncontrollable hand
gestures. The symptoms differ from one child to the next, and may even change over time. Some cerebral palsy sufferers are also affected by a few medical disorders, including seizures or mental impairment. There are four types of CP Spastic, Athetoid, Ataxic, and Mixed. What is Cerebral Palsy?
Cerebral palsy is a medical condition caused by permanent brain injury that occurs before, during, or shortly after birth. The effect of cerebral palsy, or CP, is characterized by lack of muscle control and abnormal body movement. While it is not a progressive disease of the brain, the effects of cerebral palsy may change gradually over the years. The cause of cerebral palsy has not been definitively identified, but it has been linked to the health history of both the mother and child, as well as to accidents that result in brain damage. If you suspect your child's condition resulted from malpractice or negligence, you should contact a cerebral palsy attorney as soon as possible. A cerebral palsy lawyer can help you determine whether you have a viable case and are entitled to compensation.
Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy affects the individual's physical movement, speech, hearing, vision, and brain function. There are a number of early warning signs associated with the condition, such as delayed development and abnormal muscle tone. Learn more about the

What is it?
If someone has cerebral palsy it means that part of their brain is not working properly or has not developed. This will have happened before they were born, around the time of birth or in early childhood. The affected area of the brain is usually one of the parts that control the muscles and certain body movements. In some people, cerebral palsy is barely noticeable. Others will be more severely affected.
Types
Cerebral palsy jumbles messages between the brain and the muscles. There are three types of cerebral palsy, depending on which messages are affected. Many people with cerebral palsy have a combination of two or more types. Spastic cerebral palsy
'Spastic' means 'stiff' and this form of cerebral palsy stiffens muscles and decreases the range of movement in joints. This tightness is always there and means that someone with spastic cerebral palsy has to work harder to walk or move. This is the most common form of cerebral palsy, affecting different areas of the body. If the person is only affected on one side of their body the term used is

Cerebral Palsy
Description
Cerebral palsy is the name given to a large group of motor (body movement) disorders that begin early in life and result from brain injuries that are non-progressive (do not worsen over time). Some children with cerebral palsy also have learning, vision, hearing and language disorders. Brain injuries that produce cerebral palsy can happen before, during or after birth. Although the specific brain injury causing cerebral palsy does not worsen, the movement problems produced by the injury can vary over time. In most cases of cerebral palsy, the exact cause is unknown. Some possibilities include developmental abnormalities of the brain, brain injury to the fetus caused by low oxygen levels (asphyxia) or poor circulation, infection, and trauma. Injury and asphyxia during labor and delivery once were thought to be common reasons for cerebral palsy. However, some current research suggests that cerebral palsy is caused by problems that happen earlier in the pregnancy and then result in a difficult delivery. There are four basic types of cerebral palsy:
  • Spastic (stiff, difficult movement)
