Golden Conures are disappearing from the Brazilian rainforest at an alarming rate due to deforestation and are listed on CITES I, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species . Here at R&B Aviaries, Golden Conures are one of the species we keep in a "Conservation Breeding Program."
All offspring are "parent-reared" in hopes of assuring reliable future breeders. A Federal permit is required to keep and breed these magnificent birds. These rare birds are not offered as pets but we do interact with other breeders of this species, who hold the appropriate permit, to add or exchange unrelated offspring to maintain pure genetic bloodlines. SPECIES PROFILE: Golden Conures are medium sized parrots that measure about 13.5 inches. Their beak is horn colored and is surprisingly large in relation to their size. The obvious, most striking feature of Golden Conures is their brilliant yellow coloration, which stands out in contrast to the deep green of the covert wing feathers. Click the parrot to go home!!!

THE BLUE-CROWNED CONURE
By R.R. Holster - PetStation
Hidden like a quiet, unassuming jewel admist the loud, boisterous and gaudy group of parrots known as conures is one of the finest pets that anyone can own... the Blue-crowned conure. Talk to conure breeders familiar with the traits of many members of the conure family and they will often point to the Blue-crowned as one of their favorites. The reason certainly isn't the Blue-crowned's appearance, for its mostly-green plummage can hardly compare to the blazing red, yellow and orange attire that many conures flaunt. Not that the Blue-crowned is drab, once you take a closer look. It actually sports three or four different greens within its array of feathers; the underparts of the tail feathers are a unique blend of rust and watermelon, and its graceful, azure head is a natural wonder. The Blue-crowned even has a bi-hued beak, with the lower mandible black and the upper a horn color. Still, in a beauty contest, it would hardly rank among the world's most beautiful parrots. Rather, it is the Blue-crowned's personality that finally wins over its share of converts. The Blue-crowned is one of the sweetest and most laid-back of all the conure group. Of course, individuals often dramatically vary in temperament and disposition, and much depends on how they are socialized as babies and in their various human interactions. Yet in general, the Blue-crowned has proven itself to be well-suited for human companionship as a good-natured pet.

They were imported into the United States up until the 1980's, but now these affectionate, charming little birds are becoming a bit difficult to find in captivity. They are flourishing in the wild. Crimson Star's Sun Conures Page
Sun Conures are without doubt the most attractive members of the conure family. In fact, their rich golden- yellow bodies and pronounced red cheeks, make them a sure standout in any bird collection. Until quite recently, these birds were very rare, very expensive and very noisy! Fortunately for parrot breeders everywhere, domestically raised Sun Conures are now usually readily available, not quite so expensive anymore and, if hand-raised, they are not objectionably noisy. I have been breeding Sun Conures for about eight years and have found them capable of nesting at one year of age. It therefore surprises me to keep hearing from people whose birds have done nothing after several years, except for roosting in the nestbox. In most of these cases, the owners report that both of the conures are identical in appearance, as far as they can tell. From my experience, the male and female Sun Conures can be sexed by the time they are fully feathered, at about eight weeks. At this time, the males are the ones with less red showing on the face and head; the females will appear to have more red or brighter red by comparison. By the time the babies are between four and six months old, the colors start to change and the males suddenly acquire more red on the cheeks, head and nape. The females do not lose any of their red, it's just that the males end up with more.

Originating from South America, Blue Crown Conures are considered one of the best Conure speakers having a large vocabulary. These intelligent birds require lots of large cages, many toys and perches for entertainment. Matching the Macaw's liveliness and color, the blue crown, however, is smaller, easier to keep, and bonds to more than one owner. Their affection is shown by mimics of an owner's sounds such as laughter. "Paulie" from the movie was a Blue Crown Conure.

Conure Parrot
Conures are a diverse, loosely-defined group of medium-sized to small New World parrots belonging to several genera within a long-tailed group within the New World Parrot subfamily Arinae. The term "conure" is used primarily in aviculture, though has appeared in some scientific journals. The American Ornithologists' Union uses the generic term "parakeet" for all species termed Conure elsewhere, although Joseph Forshaw, in his Parrots of the World, uses the term "conure". They are large parakeets native to Central and South America. For parrots, Conures are lightly built, with long tails (Conure literally means 'cone tail') and small, strong beaks. They have a diverse range of colours. Teach your parrot to talk Link Partners

Thats a sun conure!
The sun conure possesses a multifaceted personality that will delight the experienced bird owner and pique the curiosity of the inexperienced nonbird person. They can best be described as curious, inquisitive, active and playful. They love attention and closeness from their owners.
A flock of sun conures flying across an evening sky was once said to have resembled a beautiful sunset. Hence, the name sun conure was assigned to the species. The sun conure's body color possesses a yellow-orange glow with a distinct resemblance to gold. The brilliant blend of yellow, orange, red, blue and green colors means sun conures outshine most other birds in appearance.
