Crohn's Disease
Definition
Regional Enteritis, Crohn's disease is defimed as chronic, granulomatous inflammation of the entire bowel wall and surrounding mesentery. The terminal ileum and the proximal colon are the most frequently involved areas. Its incidence ranges from 1 to 5 cases per 100,000 population. Like in UC, Crohn's disease is more common in the developed countries of Europe and North America, involving more frequently whites than other races and without sexual predominance. It has a bimodal age distribution with peak incidences between 15 and 25 years and 50 and 80 years. It is more commonly seen in urban populations and is associated with smoking.
Radiographic Appearance
Using a barium enarma and or small bowel meal / barium follow through the radiologisy may demonstrate strictures, fistula, mucosal cobblestoning, or ulceration of the bowel depending on the phase, acute or resting of the disease. CT scan, being used more now than previously, shows changes in the wall of the entire intestine and can identify complications such as intestinal obstruction, abscesses, and fistula formation.T he transmural thickening and ultimate fibrosis of the gut will produce findings by

http://www.thegastrogroup.com/crohns.htm
Crohn's Disease While the cause of Crohn’s disease is unknown, there is much that can be done to treat this disease. Depending upon which part of the bowel is effected, the medical treatment may vary. Medications such as Flagyl, Dipentum, Prednisone, Imuran, 6-MP and Azasan may be used. For refractory cases, Remicade and Cyclosporin IV may be utilized, the former, often being used in cases complicated with fistulas. Surgery may be necessary in severe, acute cases that do not respond to medical treatment when there are intra-abdominal abscesses or bowel obstruction. Unfortunately, even after the Crohn’s segment is removed, the disease may recur, weeks or decades later.
Despite the fact that Crohn’s disease may be a terribly frustrating disease, it is totally unpredictable, and may go into remissions or flares for months or years at a time. Stress tends to exacerbate the activity of the disease, especially the kind of “life-stresses” that people tend to hold inside of themselves. Contrary to what has been suggested in the medical and lay literature, we have not found any increased risk of cancer associated with long term disease.

I have suffered from Lesniewski-Crohn's disease for 10 years. I had three surgical operations, in one of the operation a piece of small intestine was excised. I had twisted bowels after previous operation 5 years ago. I had continuous abdominal pains and diarrhoea. Very often I had liver pain. For many years I had acute pain and deformation of joints. All the time of my illness I had been cured by pills which I swallowed by handful. I was emaciated, very weak and I did not have the strength. I followed optimal diet for more than one year. During that time my body weight increased by 12 kilograms. All disorders of an alimentary canal disappeared and I do not feel liver any more. Pain in joints faded away and to my surprise the deformation of joints withdrew completely. I do not take any pills since the start of optimal diet and I feel very well. I have become healthy again and all this happened in such a simple way. My "friends in sickness" still suffer. What should be done that they were healthy again?

Crohn's disease
Published by BUPA's health information team, healthinfo@bupa.com , February 2008. This factsheet is for people with Crohn's disease, or who would like information about it. Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease and can have both short- and long-term effects. It affects about one in 700 people, mostly adults, and develops in both men and women. Crohn's disease isn't caused by an infection and you can't catch the illness from someone else.
What is Crohn's disease?
Crohn's disease is due to inflammation of the wall of your bowel. It can affect any part of your digestive system, from your mouth down through your stomach and bowel to your anus. However, it's most common in your small bowel or the first part of your large bowel. It may affect more than one section leaving unaffected areas in-between. If you have Crohn's disease, you will have inflammation and swelling in affected areas of your bowel and ulcers may form. These are raw areas of the bowel lining which can bleed. Your bowel wall will be thickened and this may cause blockages.

Crohn's Disease Helped with Chiropractic; Study Says
Research, published in the November 2002 issue of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR) demonstrates that chiropractic care may be effective in helping patients with allergies and Crohn's Disease. The results of those studied showed long term remission and alleviation of symptoms in both allergy and Crohn's Disease.
Crohn's disease causes inflammation in the small intestine. Crohn's disease usually occurs in the lower part of the small intestine, called the ileum, but it can affect any part of the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus. The inflammation extends deep into the lining of the affected organ. The inflammation can cause pain and can make the intestines empty frequently, resulting in diarrhea. Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the general name for diseases that cause inflammation in the intestines. Crohn's disease affects men and women equally and seems to run in some families. About 20 percent of people with Crohn's disease have a blood relative with some form of IBD, most often a brother or sister and sometimes a parent or child. Crohn's disease may also be called ileitis or enteritis
In the research 57 patients were divided into two groups. One group was a control group that received only standard medical care for their condition. The second group consisted of 17 patients who also received their standard medical care but additionally received chiropractic care. This group of 17 patients received spinal adjustments in order to reduce the vertebral subluxations in the thoracic and lumbar regions of their spine. The control group did not receive spinal adjustments.

    Elaine Moore Jun 10, 2007
In a phase 2 clinical trial, researchers at Penn State University showed that LDN is a safe and effective treatment for patients with Crohn's disease.
The phase 2 clinical trial of low dose naltrexone (LDN) for the inflammatory bowel disorder American Journal of Gastroenterology Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) infliximab (Remicade) stopped using this medication at least 8 weeks prior to the start of the LDN trial. Patients who had been on other medications, using stable doses for at least 4 weeks prior to the trial, were allowed to continue on these medications during the course of the LDN study. All patients enrolled in the trial were treated with 4.5mg of naltrexone daily, given at bedtime, for a period of 12 weeks and were followed by researchers for a total of 16 weeks. Study participants completed the inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire (IBDQ) and the short-from (SF-36) Quality of Life surveys during the trial. In addition, the CDAI score was re-evaluated every 4 weeks.
