Access World Forums Microsoft Access Discussion Queries PDA View Full Version : Date Range Query GJT 02-06-2003, 03:25 AM I have these two tables in a 1:M relationship.
One called CURRENCY and the other CURRENCY_HISTORY containing the exchange rates and the dates on which the revised rates are added to the table, respectively.
Problem I have is this :
For 'n' orders during the year, the exchange rates change (obv) . I need to write a query to return the appropriate GBP order value for all orders in that year in accordance with their exchange rate values. The corresponding rate that is used for each order will depend of course upon the CURRENCY ID (currency type) and the order date.
i.e.
USD rates in CURRENCY_HISTORY
Does anyone know if this can be done relatively easily
Thanks Jon K 02-06-2003, 07:59 PM Assuming the Currency_History table contains the three fields:-
Currency ID, Date, Rate
and the Orders table contains the two fields:-
Order Date, Currency ID based on the Currency_History table, I would use a query to return the fields:- Currency ID, StartDate, EndDate, Rate

Currency Timeline
Up until the early 16th century, when the Spaniards colonized Jamaica, there had been little occasion for the use of a regular currency. Although there was a small amount of gold on the; island, the Taino Indians, Jamaica's first inhabitants, used it; for decorative purposes rather than for trade, which was conducted by barter. The first units of exchange used by the Spaniards (who came with Columbus in 1494) in their dealings with the Tainos, were items such as glass beads and trinkets, scissors and mirrors. COPPER MARAVEDIS Jamaica was not settled by the Spaniards until 1509. Very little attempt was made to develop the country's natural resources and it remained a poor country used chiefly as an agricultural supplier. It seems that the majority of the circulating coinage on the island at this time was made of copper. These coins, called maravedis, were very thin and light in weight and were apparently brought to Jamaica from Santo Domingo. Sometimes these coins were stamped with different marks such as an anchor or key, which was perhaps intended to vary their value according to the supply of money in the island. Back to top SPANISH DOLLARS OR PIECES OF EIGHT In the 17th and 18th centuries, Jamaica was the bullion centre of the British possessions in the New World. The island served as the headquarters of the naval military forces and the home base of the buccaneers, and as such it received a constant supply of coins.

Nouriel Roubini Dan Drezner has an interesting post up, laying out the components of a "serious" approach to encouraging (or pressuring) China to change its exchange rate peg. He nicely lays out the options, though, as I will explain later, I think his list is incomplete. But first, let me stipulate the following: It is not so clear to me that the Bush Administration's EXTREMELY coordinated effort to turn up the rhetoical heat on China was directed at Beijing, rather than say Peoria, or Dayton, Ohio or somewhere in South Carolina. The President, the Treasury Secretary, the outgoing and ingoing Under Secretary of the Treasury for international affairs and the top international economist at the CEA all delivered the same message on Friday. That does not happen by accident.

    Panama Currency History
For nearly 300 years, the stone paved, Camino Real , connect Panama on the Pacific coast to Porto Bello , on the Caribbean was the highway, over which most of Spain's commerce passed. At one time, Porto Bello was the most important commercial city for the Spanish New World. Traders came from Spain with all good from all over Europe, to trade with the American merchants from Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Mexico, Guatemala and Nicaragua. When the Treasure Fleet arrived in Porto Bello, there was a fair, that would last up to 40 days, as the traders went about there business. The population of Porto Bello would swell, as thousand converged in the city. While slaves unloaded the merchandize brought from Europe, others were loading the native products; gold, silver, cotton, tobacco, cocoa, etc., into the Royal Treasury Building. The gold and silver ingot were stacked in large piles, like firewood. Just before the Fleet arrived in Porto Bello, the government would start moving all of the goods stored in Panama, by mule train across the isthmus. Besides all of the merchants, the town will fill with the hundreds of mule skinners, slaves, etc, that was used to transport the treasures to Porto Bello. When all the trading and negotiations were completed, the goods were loaded on the ships, for transport back to Spain.
