In its contents, you will learn the different ways of life between the three countries of Egypt Democratic Republic of the Congo , and South Africa . Each area has its similarities, as well as differences, when compared to the lives of the U.S.A. Egypt Culture By: Lisa Williams Religion and Language T he Egyptian society and culture derives from many sources. The people of Egypt come from many different races and ethnic groups. The Egyptians are the principal ethnic majority. They account for 99.8% of the population. Today’s Egyptians consider themselves Arabs, as well as descendants of Ancient Egyptians who originated in northeastern Africa . Traits of Greeks, Romans, and Ottomans are also found in present day Egyptians. Other ethnic groups found in Egypt today include Bedouin Arabs, Nubians, Greeks, Italians, and Maltese. Despite the diverse races and ethnic groups, the primary religion in Egypt is Islam with over 95% of the population Sunni Muslims. The official language is Arabic, which is spoken by the majority of the population. Marriage Peasant girls usually married at the age of 12, the boys were just a few years older than them. The marriages were arranged by parents of the children although some young people were allowed to choose their own spouse. All couples had to sign a pre-nuptial agreement that stated that the wife was to receive an allowance from her husband.
