The History of Egypt
Egypt proudly boasts of being the seat of one of the most remarkable and ancient civilizations of the world as early as 5000 years ago. Flourishing over an extended period of around 3000 years, this civilization is also reported to be one of the longest that existed on this earth. Egypt is the gift of river Nile. The plentiful water of this mysterious river nurtured this wonderful civilization. Egypt holds an interesting history of over 6000 years. The Pyramids, the Sphinx and several historical tombs and monuments spread over the land bear testimony to its rich heritage and are a major source of attraction to the entire world for all times. Located between Africa and the Middle East, Egypt is one of the most prominent among the flourishing Arab States. The history of Egypt can be traced down from 3300 BC. By this time, Egyptians had written symbols to record their history. In 3100 BC, the Pharaoh, King Menes created Egypt by uniting what were called the upper Egypt and the lower Egypt with Memphis as the capital in the north and Abydos as the capital in the south. He was the one who inaugurated what was called the Ancient Empire (3200-2270 BC). Accomplished and strong rulers like Ramses II and Akhnaton, introduction of calendar, the popular sun-god Re, Egyptian chariots and horses were the hallmarks of the period extending till the early centuries of BC. Slowly, the authority of the rulers diminished and Egypt came under the control of foreign princes.

HISTORY
Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world and the second-most populous on the African Continent. Nearly 100% of the country's 58 million people live in Cairo and Alexandria; elsewhere on the banks of the Nile; in the Nile delta, which fans out north of Cairo; and along the Suez Canal. These regions are among the world's most densely populated, containing an average of over 1,540 person per square kilometer (3,820 per sq. mi.). Small communities spread throughout the desert regions of Egypt are clustered around oases and historic trade and transportation routes. The government has tried with mixed success to encourage migration to newly irrigated land reclaimed from the desert. However, the proportion of the population living in rural areas has continued to decrease as people move to the cities in search of employment and a higher standard of living. The Egyptians are a fairly homogeneous people of Hamitic origin. Mediterranean and Arab influences appear in the north, and there is some mixing in the south with the Nubians of northern Sudan. Ethnic minorities include a small number of Bedouin Arab nomads in the eastern and western deserts and in the Sinai, as well as some 50,000-100,000 Nubians clustered along the Nile in upper Egypt. Egypt has endured as a unified state for more than 5,000 years, and archeological evidence indicates that a developed Egyptian society has existed for much longer. Egyptians take pride in their "pharaonic heritage" and in their descent from what they consider mankind's earliest civilization. The Arabic word for Egypt is Misr, which originally connoted "civilization" or "metropolis." Archeological findings show that primitive tribes lived along the Nile long before the dynastic history of the pharaohs began. By 6000 B.C., organized agriculture had appeared.

Napoleon Bonaparte to his soldiers before the Battle of Giza, 1798 Archaeic Period (3100-2686BC) Little is known of Menes, his "divine ancestry" and the complex social system he led. His capital was at Memphis, the world's first imperial city. From Memphis the third and fifth kings of the First Dynasty which extended from 3100 to 2890BC set out to conquer the Sinai. During the First Dynasty culture became increasingly refined. The royal burial grounds at Saqqara and Abydos became sites of highly developed mastabas (rectangular brick tombs). The Second Dynasty lasting from 2890 to 2686BC was characterized by regional disputes and a decentralization of Pharaonic authority. The Old Kingdom (2686-2181BC) The first of Egypt's pyramids were constructed during the 27th century BC. The Step Pyramid of Saqqara built for King Zoser by his chief architect Imhotep was the first major pyranid used as a burial structure. During Zoser's rule the Sun God Ra attained a pre-eminent place over all other Egyptian deities.
