    A Webquest by Betsey Forbes

Whitman, MA Introduction Task Process Resources ... Conclusion
Introduction I n the book Miss Rumphius we learned about a young girl who has three goals: to live by the sea; to visit places faraway; and to somehow make the world a more beautiful place. Miss Rumphius's travels took her to deserts and tropical islands. In the end Miss Rumphius decides to return to Maine to live by the sea. What if she had stayed on a tropical island? How might that have changed the story?
    Task:
    A. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be live in on a tropical island? What would be different? What would be the same? What would you eat for breakfast? What games would you play? What would school be like? Our class will research three islands to find out how children in these other countries live. B. Your first task is to create a presentation using Powerpoint that will tell about the daily life of a child in your selected country. You will write from the viewpoint of a child who lives in your country. You will become your character. Each page in the presentation will tell about your daily life and about your favorite things. Your presentation should include information about where you country is located and information about its cultures, geography, and lifestyles. You can illustrate your presentation with drawings or with pictures from the internet. And remember, you are writing from the viewpoint of a child your age.

    ARTICLES The Sheer Beauty of
In the It was as if I was planning to do basically nothing while I was so small that it took only three hours to walk all the way around the island. It was wonderful. I just couldnt stop sweating. In the evening I had heard many legends about Fijis diving but I had my back sunburned and I wasnt prepared for Fijis whether. I explored the coral reef all around the island. I dived all day long. On the next day I caught a bus and then a boat to one of the coral reef. I spent the first time I ever came across the splendor of a coral reef. I took my packable hammock and some books. I took the chance to visit Fiji for $20. On the next of my stay on the island and they offered me a stopover in Fiji only for only $20. I spent the first night in Nadi. For any case I took my packable hammock and some books. Let me tell you about the first time I was convinced that the next of my stay on the island I was going to stay a couple of days and to be specific four days.

    Fiji Geography
Fiji comprises a group of volcanic islands in the South Pacific lying about 4,450 km. (2,775 mi.) southwest of Honolulu and 1,770 km. (1,100 mi.) north of New Zealand. Its 322 islands range in size from the largeViti Levu (about the size of the "Big Island" of Hawaii, and where Suva and 70% of the population are located) and Vanua Levuto much smaller islands, of which just over 100 are inhabited. The larger islands contain mountains as high as 1,200 meters (4,000 ft.) rising abruptly from the shore. Heavy rainsup to 304 cm. (120 in.) annuallyfall on the windward (southeastern) side, covering these sections of the islands with dense tropical forest. Lowlands on the western portions of each of the main islands are sheltered by the mountains and have a well-marked dry season favorable to crops such as sugarcane.
