Its main motto is "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" Some Masons define it as "a beautiful system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols" ... also as "the realization of God by the practice of Brotherhood" : To reach God by doing good works to your neighbor... It has been described as "the biggest, richest, most secret and most powerful private force in the world". .. and certainly, "the most deceptive" , both for the general public, and for the first 3 degrees of "initiates": Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason (the basic "Blue Lodge")...

Name and definition
Leaving aside various fanciful derivations we may trace the word mason to the French Latin matio or machio ), "a builder of walls" or "a stone-cutter" (cf. German Steinmetz , from metzen , "to cut"; and Dutch vrijmetselaar The compound term Freemason occurs first in 1375 according to a recently found writing, even prior to 1155 [1] and, contrary to Gould [2] means primarily a mason of superior skill, though later it also designated one who enjoyed the freedom, or the privilege, of a trade guild . [3] In the former sense it is commonly derived from freestone-mason , a mason hewing or building in free (ornamental) stone in opposition to a rough (stone) mason. [4] This derivation, though harmonizing with the meaning of the term, seemed unsatisfactory to some scholars. Hence Speth proposed to interpret the word freemasons as referring to those masons claiming exemption from the control of local guilds of the towns, where they temporarily settled. [5] In accordance with this suggestion the "New English Dictionary of the Philological Society" (Oxford, 1898) favours the interpretation of

"The presence of a noble nature, generous in its wishes, ardent in its charity, changes the lights for us: we begin to see things again in their larger, quieter masses, and to believe that we too can be seen and judged in the wholeness of our character."
To explore the organization that some (very few, actually) so vehemently protest, we must first explain what Masonry IS! Here are some key points: Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest Fraternity . While its traditions look back to earliest history, Masonry in its current form appeared when its public events were noticed by the residents of London, England in 1717. Although Masonry - particularly in its earliest days - had some elements of secrecy, the first 'exposure' of the supposedly highly-secret Masonic ritual actually appeared in 1696! Since that time, there have been tens of thousands of books published about this 'secret organization'. And for over three hundred years, despite the good works done by its members, Freemasonry has continually suffered the slings and arrows of those who seek to use it's quiet nature against it. Freemasonry's singular purpose is to make good men better and its bonds of friendship, compassion and brotherly love have survived even the most divisive political, military and religious conflicts through the centuries. Freemasonry is neither a forum nor a place of worship. It is

I've been put on an "anti-mason" [hit]list , along with others who dare to write anything unflattering against the brethren; I've had heated debates and arguments in public forums and message boards; and I've actually been threatened, both subtly and overtly. Curiously, many times the offended Mason claims to be a chaplain, a minister or a supposed "man of cloth" - a real surprise, at first, considering the occult nature of the organization. The negative experiences far outweigh the positive. The members who regularly post to forums and send out emails display the traits of having been thoroughly brainwashed by a first-class cult. Some are far more clever, however, and are undoubtedly part of a concerted effort by

The question of the Christian stand regarding Freemasonry seems to confront our ministry at every turn lately. I have had to come to grips with the sad fact that the esoteric doctrines of Freemasonry separate it, just as unequivocally as do those of Mormonism, from Christian theology. This holds true for every branch of Masonry from the Shriners to the Blue Lodge, the Eastern Star, Demolay, Job's Daughters and the Rainbow Girls! It holds true for the Scottish rite or York rite!

    Freemasonry in Israel
Freemasonry is the world's oldest universal fraternity, which believes in the brotherhood of man under the Fatherhood of G-d. Freemasonry strives to achieve moral improvement, family values, civic betterment, freedom of thought, and tolerance. Freemasons around the world volunteer and contribute to medical research, hospitals, homes for the elderly, scholarships, and many other charitable causes. Simply put, Freemasons believe that it is OK to be a good person, and that good persons should encourage each other to become better persons, and then, regardless of economic resources, work together benevolently to help in the community. Based on these strong foundations of morality and conscience, it is not surprising that Freemasonry is the world's largest philanthropic institution, seeking to provide relief for suffering humanity. Freemasonry is a fraternity, absolutely not a secret society. As such, it is open for membership applications and has modes of recognition. Freemasonry is definitely not a religious cult or political group; Freemasons do never discuss religion or politics. Yet, membership strictly requires belief in G-d. Furthermore, Freemasons are expected to be model citizens, faithful followers of their respective religions, and loyal patriots of their respective countries.
