  • Back to School Breakfasts - Quick and Easy - It's back-to-school, or homeschooling time! Whichever way you are going with your kids, schooltime means back to a structured schedule and back to the morning routine of gearing up for the day! Get the kids and yourself off to the right start with a cheap, delicious, home-cooked breakfast.
  • Developing a Price Book - A price book is simply a list of the items you use regularly and the best prices they sell for in the stores where you are willing to shop. It is an excellent tool for tracking prices, sales and buying opportunities. Prices in a price book should be listed by cost per unit so you can easily compare different size packages from different stores. When you see a deal in the weekly flyer or in the store, you will know instantly if it is really a good deal and worth your time to go out and purchase. Just because an item is on sale doesn't automatically make it a good buy. The regular price at some stores may be less than the sale price at others. Your price book is an invaluable tool to help you determine if a sale is really a deal.
  • Easy Boneless Chicken - One of the easiest ways to save money on groceries is to purchase the meat which is on sale each week. Of course, if you buy 5 to 10 pounds of the same meat how can you fix meals that will be different, and yet take advantage of that huge sale price?

Does Extreme Frugal Living Deprive Children?
by Susan Thacker
Based On An Interview with Author, Tawra Kellam
Over 100,000 copies sold – Dining on a Dime
The Author – She’s your super-saver mom who paid off $20,000 in debt from moving and medical expenses in five years on an income of $22,000 a year. Tawra Kellam is the icon of frugality and the author of best selling (over 100,000 copies sold) Dining on a Dime I asked Kellam how she paid off $20,000 in debt over five years on an income of $22,000 a year while feeding a family of five people. She said she cut every unnecessary expense. Her radical measures meant her children drank water at every meal, and they walked to their friends’ homes in order to save wear and tear on the car. I thought, what about wear and tear on the children? She then explained that she was not depriving her children but helping them. She further said that many children have every luxury but they do not have mom at home. She said that many mothers feel compelled to provide a certain standard of living for the child that may not be necessary and may even be harmful.
The question today is: Does extreme frugal living deprive children or even help them? Kellam says it does not harm them; it helps them. Kellam says that processed convenience foods are expensive and cutting them out improves health.

Emperor Who Prefers No Clothes
http://politicalmavens.com/ index.php/ 2008/ 03/ 12/ no-clothes/ It's the height of laugh-out-loud irony that now-former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer would be nailed for allegedly using a hooker service called the Emperor's Club. For decades, Spitzer lorded over the state with haughty self-righteousness, out of control sanctimony, and arbitrary applications of his wrath. In other words, just like the Emperor whose "Club" he's [...] 77 days ago Tagged:

The opportunities for spending money nowadays are unlimited. Too many people find themselves too strapped to pay their bills on time and complain when their bi-weekly salary is paid a couple of days late. Living on the edge is frustrating, stressful and completely unnecessary. No matter how much or how little money you make, good spending and saving habits can solve your problem. "A penny saved is a penny earned" is a saying that can be applied toward many situations. With diligent research and patience, second hand furniture can be found at one third the price of new. The trick is to keep looking until you find almost exactly what you want. Prudence dictates that the higher the quality, the better the furniture will look and the longer it will last. Classic styles will never go out of fashion and you can sell your old furniture to defray the cost of the replacement. Make sure your old furniture is polished, empty, and shown to good advantage. Make your meals at home interesting and romantic. Eating out should be a treat saved for a special occasion or enjoyed once in a while when far away from home. Car trips, excursions to the country, or times when you know you will be away from home for a long period of time are situations that require some forethought in the food department. Bring an apple or a bag of fruit to assuage your hunger until you get home. Remember that the cost of dinner for four at a nice restaurant can feed the family for a week.

Even More Rent or Buy: Renting is for Suckers
We have had a few discussions in the past on the topic of renting a place versus buying a home...check these out for more information:
To add some more information to the discussion, Chris over at Investor Geeks has written a great article that comes down on the side of the renter, entitled " Misconception: Renting if for Suckers ." I tend to agree with him on most of his points, especially now that we have our new house, it has been a total time and money sink thus far, especially with all of my landscaping projects that I have undertaken ( Starting Tomorrow: Money Flowing Out and Landscaping Project Update
My basic thought on the whole situation is that, when you buy a house, you are paying for a certain lifestyle. It is not necessarily the best investment, there are many situations where renting is better, but some people really enjoy having a lawn and house projects to do (I, unfortunately am not one of those people). So, I think that it can really depend on the person...there is no clear cut answer to if it is better to rent or buy. Tags: posted by RS at 8:05 PM 10 comments
