Luigi Russolo and the Italian Futurists
The Art of Noise
Grandfather of Modern Sound Luigi Russolo (1885-1947) ,painter Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (1876-1944) ,poet Pratella- (1880-1955), musician The Futurists were activists in both the arts and politics. Marinetti, a lawyer, was the leader of the group. He saw the past as obsolete and sought to shape the future by publishing manifestos. The Futurists were basically a political movement until after world war one. Mussolini became a follower of the Futurists until he silenced them after attaining the power he needed. This embittered the Futurist and caused them to withdraw from politics. They wrote manifestos on visual arts, sculpture, painting, and music. We will concentrate on Russolo and his contribution to modern electronic music. Russolo had served in the war as a motorcycle driver and been wounded. It was Russolo's belief that noise was the sound of music for the new century. In his manifesto Art of Noises In another manifesto

early 20th-century artistic movement that centred in Italy and emphasized the dynamism, speed, energy, and power of the machine and the vitality, change, and restlessness of modern life in general. The most significant results of the movement were in the visual arts and poetry. Futurism was first announced on Feb. 20, 1909, when the Paris newspaper Le Figaro published a manifesto by the Italian poet and editor Filippo Tommaso Marinetti
Painting and sculpture
With the support of Marinetti, the painters Umberto Boccioni painting in 1910. Like Marinetti, they glorified originality for its own sake and despised inherited traditions of art. Although they were not as yet working in what was to become the Futurist style, they began to emphasize an emotional involvement in the dynamics of modern life, and toward this end they called for rendering the perception of movement and communicating to the viewer the sensations of speed and change. To achieve this, the Futurist painters adopted the Cubist Boccioni also became interested in sculpture formulated a Futurist manifesto on architecture

Cubo-futurism Cubo-futurism developed in Russia around 1910. It was essentially a synthetic style, a reinterpretation of the French Cubism (Picasso and Braque) and Italian Futurism (Marinetti, Boccioni) popular at that time in Europe, combined with a strong Neo-primitivist belief in the dynamic possibilities of color and line. The Cubo-futurist movement attracted such talented artists as Goncharova, Larionov, Popova, Malevich, Tatlin, and many others. In Russian interpretation, sometimes there is no significant difference between a Cubist and Cubo-futurist painting. Both feature bold colors, and the fragmentation of the objects on the canvas' surface. Perhaps Cubo-futurism places more emphasis on movement and action; it is also often characterized by the inclusion of various letters, even complete words, in the composition. Goncharova's The Cyclist (1912-13), Popova's Italian Still-Life (1914) and Seated Figure (ca. 1915), as well as Malevich's An Englishman in Moscow (1914) and The Knife Grinder (1912) are not only good examples of the painterly possibilities opened up by the Cubo-futurist style but also excellent illustrations of various artistic approaches to it.

Space Travel Predictions from Look Magazine, 1957
In December 1957, only two months after the Soviets launched Sputnik, Look magazine presented a timetable predicting the future of American space travel . "If you have a life expectancy covering the remainder of the 20th century, you will live to see man land on the moon," it stated confidently. At the time, the U.S. space program had yet to successfully launch a satellite of its own. Perhaps as a result, Look's timeline was surprisingly cautious. More 1:20 PM on Wed May 28 2008

The Catholic Origins of Futurism and Preterism With the advent of the printing press in the15th century, and the resulting explosion of Bibles accessible in the common language from Protestant sources, it became readily apparent to those who could now study the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation in particular, that Bible prophecy identified by symbols a persecuting apostate entity generally known as antichrist. The following table shows the common elements from several places in scripture that aid in identifying this antichrist power: Characteristics The Little Horn

VIEW Futurism Is Dead Why do video-games based on movies suck? I'm a Maverick, Not a Mogul! Linux: The Next Generation Fiber to the People Ed Cornish, founder of the World Future Society and its president since 1966, leans back from his computer - a DOS machine that doesn't do email, the Net, or Windows. Clifton Coles, assistant editor of the society's flagship magazine, The Futurist , pokes his head into his boss's office: "A Seattle radio station called, wants to know if you have some predictions for next year." Cornish, 76, strokes his nipples in a circular motion, stares off for a second, and says, "I can't think of anything in particular." When the president of the World Future Society is baffled by a simple request for a prediction - any prediction - it's a sure sign that the field as a whole is in trouble. It's not the only sign. No major newspaper covered this year's WFS conference; that was left to The Manila Times and the Cincinnati Business Courier . The society's membership rolls are down 20 percent compared with 10 years ago. And a WFS member hasn't been invited to the White House since the Reagan administration. The list goes on. Long gone are the days when Isaac Asimov, Buckminster Fuller, and Arthur C. Clarke made headlines with their prophesies. Today, we have João Pedro de Magalhães, who says that if we eliminate age-related diseases, we can expect an unlimited lifespan (a tautology). We have H. Paul Shuch, who says that earthlings should abandon planetary paranoia and transmit warm greetings to other young civilizations in space. We have Susan Clayton, who predicts that in the next decade or two, we'll be able to talk to animals - in

Creative Catapult
Here are the notes from my creative catapult presentation, edited to read as a whopper blog post for those of you who either couldn't make it, or would like to read for reference.
Creative Expression - Avoiding Project Churn
John Davidson from Kanoti invited me along to present at his Creative Catapult event because I did a talk at DScape a couple of years ago which he thought was pretty cool. I talked about how I'd managed to get my own creative project up and running, and John suggested I revisit it, as it might be a good example for the possibility of doing your own thing, as opposed to working for someone else, or working project by project as a freelancer.
Well, the title Creative Catapult got me thinking, and rather than just tell my story, I've decided to write a bit about the things I've learned that have made it possible to do my own thing. The aim being to ensure that you understand how I've been able to realise my own creative goals, rather than me just blab about what I've done, which could be a bit lame. Hopefully then you'll be able to take something away and apply it to your own situation.
Now I'd say the ultimate goal for us all is some level of creative expression, doing the stuff that comes from our own imagination; our own visual or storytelling style - cultivating that uniquely creative thing that we do, so that one day we can earn a living doing exactly what we enjoy. It's a very rare thing in fact, as it's so easy to lose track of what we want by getting caught in the digital media project churn. What I mean by this is just all the projects you don't care about - the ones you have to work on to make a living.

Nazi Paleo-Futurism (1941)
Heliport/Railway Station Martin Kappler has scanned and uploaded a German poster from 1941 which shows Third Reich images of the paleo-future . The poster was in a book called Durch die weite Welt vol. XIX , one in a series of books for boys.
Many thanks to Flickrfy for the tip, and of course, Martin Kappler for scanning and translating this poster.
The headline and main text read:
What new things will the technology of tomorrow bring?
Today still a venturous plan - tomorrow maybe reality
Technology and economy in the Greater German Reich have gone into an unexpected upswing. The largest network of Autobahn highways has been constructed in just a few years, whole new industries were created and great architectural and urbanistic tasks are about to be realised. Although the war, that was forced upon us, makes it necessary to concentrate our economy on the war efforts, the great plans for the buildup are drawn with the certitude of our victory in mind. Many keen inventions and many thoughts that still seem fantastic today will then be realised. The pictures in this poster show on which branches the engineers are working today and what the technology of tomorrow will bring.

Futurist Manifesto
I talian Futurism Italian Futurism was initially a literary movement created by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in 1909 with the manifesto Le Futurisme . The intentions of this manifesto was a wake-up call to Marinetti's countrymen to make them aware that they had been 'wearing second-hand clothes for too long.' It was time for them to create a new art for themselves, forged out of the beauty of speed and a glorification of war: Art, in fact, can be nothing but violence, cruelty, and injustice. That the manifesto was first written in French and published in the Parisian newspaper Le Figaro before any of the new Futurist art existed, typified Marinetti's understanding of the power of the media to work for him and disseminate his ideas.
Marinetti along with the artists that he gathered around him, wrote manifestos not only on literature, music, dance, performance, painting, architecture, etc. but also on almost all aspects touching everyday life, such as clothing, food
