The Histology course was developed for students entering the health professions. The course offers an introduction to the light microscopic structure of tissues and organs. Each topic corresponds to scheduled lectures and laboratory sessions. There are 23 lessons in all. When entering each lesson the students is given information about the lesson. Beginning students are encouraged to go through each Lab Intro sequentially. The left side of the screen contains a description of the image displayed on the right. Words in red describe certain structures on the image. Words in blue boxes further describe a particular structure for the advanced learner. Words in dark blue highlight structure-function correlates and selected histopathology which are included in many lessons in order to emphasize normal structure and function. From the text screen the student can view the image displayed in a magnified view. This view also offers a movable scrolling text field so that you can view the enlarged image and compare the text to the image. Intermediate and advanced level students can use a directory to randomly jump to particular text/image combinations

“Enter the appropriate extinction coefficients for the reduced and oxidized forms of alamarBlue according to the wavelengths used in your experiment. The extinction coefficients can be found on page 5 of the technical datasheet . Enter the coefficients with no commas or spaces.” “Experimental parameters” refers to the variable that is being altered for the experiment e.g. cell density or concentration of cytotoxic agent. To determine the optimum plating density and incubation time of your chosen cell line the experimental parameters should be several different cell densities, for example, 500 cells/ml, 1000 cells/ml and 5000 cells/ml. See worked example To determine the cytotoxicity of a chosen agent the experimental parameters should be varying concentrations of the cytotoxic agent. See page 6 of the technical datasheet The experimental parameters only need to be entered into this wavelength table as they are automatically copied across to all other relevant positions. If the experimental parameter titles are too long they will not be displayed correctly until the results page is printed in landscape. The absorbance results from the spectrophotometer for each time interval should be entered with the decimal place e.g. 0.356

This short suite of programs, written using the Asymetrix Multimedia Toolbook authoring package, is for use by pre-clinical medical and science undergraduates as part of their histology practical classes in Anatomy. The material covers the macro and microscopic structure of the principle components of the human nervous system. It uses an extensive collection of digitised images obtained from histological sections, together with appropriate tutorial material linked to a series of problems and multiple choice questions. It allows several attempts at each problem offering hints and tips before giving the correct answer. The program is divided into three main sections linked together with a general introduction. The sections comprise
