Jump to: navigation search Hungarian mythology includes the myths, legends, folk tales, fairy tales and gods of the Hungarians . Many parts of it were thought to be lost. Only some or even no texts remained which can be classified as a myth, although Hungarian mythology was successfully recovered in the last hundred years. The most important sources are:
  • Folklore. Many mythological persons remained in folk tales, pagan rituals were transformed to Christian ceremonies. Medieval chronicles, and similar works from Hungary Writings about Hungarians by non-Hungarian authors (mostly before 850) Archeology helped to assemble the religion.
Hungarians were converted to Christianity in the 11th century under their first monarch, Saint-King Stephen I.

In the center of our world, a tall tree is standing: the Vil¡gfa, in English, the World Tree. It's foliage is the Upper World, the K¶z©pső Vil¡g is located at its stem, and the underworld is around its roots. In some stories, the tree even has fruits: these are the golden apples.
