Brief History of Hungary Hungary was created 1000 years ago, with The Conquest, when in 895, the Hungarian tribes arrived from the East,
    BEFORE 1000 AD
Hungarians were a shamanic, horse rider, arrowing nation, coming from the east, as far as from somewhere from Mongolia / Tibet / China,
but not at a stretch, but during long centuries, maybe thousands of years. There is no one fix sure theory before 1000. Still, some things we know for sure: we were shamanic, and our writing was a "notch-writing" as we call, or runic writing in English: Hungarians speak Hunagrian today, and since they came from the East, they language - both vocabulary and strucutre - has no connection to any neighbouring country,
or any European language, except the Finnish to some extent. This is the official theory, that was formed during socialism, and patriots and past-researchers got pissed off when they hear this. They say it is a croocked theory, artificially created by the government to please some intrests. In reality, we don't understand any other language (unless we learn it), nor does anyone understand us. There are shamanic tribes, the Ugors for example at the Ural mountan in Russia, who are our relatives, and they think the same. A recently revealed shaman scripture (The Arvisura) says, we came from the 24-Hun-Tribe Alliance, that was formed 6000 years ago, were the nations roughly between the Himalaya and Hungary, the huge territories, covered by the ex-Soviet-Union. It doesn't mean, that all nations there are relative, it means, that this huge tribe alliance was spread in this space, and formed different cultures in the last 6000 years.

Home Study Abroad Hungary In the time of the Roman Empire, the Romans called the region west from the Danube river Pannonia. After Rome fell under the Germanic tribes migration and Carpians' pressure, the Migration Period continued bringing many invaders. First came the Huns, who built up a powerful empire under Attila. The chances are that the origins of the name "Hungary" doesn't come from the Central Asian nomadic invaders called the Huns. The name originated from a later, 7th century Turkic alliance called On-Ogour, which in Old Turkish meant "(the) Ten Arrows". After the Hunnish rule faded, the other Germanic tribes Lombards and Gepids ruled in Pannonia for about 100 years, during which the Slavic tribes also began migrating south. In the 560s, these were supplanted by the Avars who would maintain their supremacy of the land for over two centuries. The Franks under Charlemagne from the west and the Bulgars from the southeast finally managed to overthrow the Avars in the early 9th century. Soon after, the Franks retreated, and the Slavonic kingdom of Great Moravia and the Balaton Principality controlled much of Pannonia until the end of the century. Finally, the Magyars migrated to Hungary in the late 9th century. Tradition holds that the Country of the Magyars (Magyarország) was founded by Árpád, who led the Magyars into the Pannonian plains after 895. The "Ten Arrows" mentioned above referred to ten tribes, the alliance of which founded the basic Magyar invaders' "army".

Communist Takeover The provisional government, dominated by the Hungarian Communist Party (MKP), was replaced in November 1945 after elections which gave majority control of a coalition government to the Independent Smallholders' Party. The government instituted a radical land reform and gradually nationalized mines, electric plants, heavy industries, and some large banks. The communists ultimately undermined the coalition regime by discrediting leaders of rival parties and through terror, blackmail, and framed trials. In elections tainted by fraud in 1947, the leftist bloc gained control of the government. Postwar cooperation between the U.S.S.R. and the West collapsed, and the Cold War began. With Soviet support, Moscow-trained Matyas Rakosi began to establish a communist dictatorship. By February 1949, all opposition parties had been forced to merge with the MKP to form the Hungarian Workers' Party. In 1949, the communists held a single-list election and adopted a Soviet-style constitution which created the Hungarian People's Republic. Rakosi became Prime Minister in 1952. Between 1948 and 1953, the Hungarian economy was reorganized according to the Soviet model. In 1949, the country joined the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA, or Comecon), a Soviet-bloc economic organization. All private industrial firms with more than 10 employees were nationalized. Freedom of the press, religion, and assembly were strictly curtailed. The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty, was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Austro-Hungarian Forces in World War I 1916-18 Peter Jung Nov 2003 Paperback Book Description The part played in the Great War by the armies of the Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy is little known to English-speakers, perhaps because 1918 saw the complete destruction of the Empire. Yet it was of great importance, providing nearly all Central Powers forces on the Italian front, huge numbers on the Russian front, the Balkans and even a contingent in Turkey and Palestine. This second volume describes this complex organisation from the accession of Emperor Karl I in November 1916, through the victory of Caporetto and failure of the Piave offensive, to the final Armistice. The text is supported by tables and insignia charts, and illustrated with rare photographs and colourful plates. Stone Age
    Iron Age (c. 700 BC - 9 BC)
For the Early Iron Age (700-500 BC), we still have no written sources. Some scholars try to identify people later mentioned in the written sources Thracians east of the Tisza, and Illyrians (Pannonians) west of the Danube but this is highly speculative. The Celts came from the west around 450 BC, and they expanded over the whole of present-day Hungary in the Late Iron Age. The Pannonian (in the southwest) and Thracian presence also seems to have continued, however. After 113 BC, the Celts in the northwest of this area were apparently the Boii. In the first half of the 1st century BC, the Dacian king Burebista extended his rule over the Pannonian Plain, as far as present-day eastern Austria. He was fighting the Boii in southwestern Slovakia, and perhaps northern Hungary, around 60 BC. But Dacian expansion was then halted by the expansion of the Roman Empire. The Dacians for the most part ceased to occupy present-day Hungary by around the year 1 AD as did the Celts, more gradually, somewhat later.
    Roman period (9 BC - c. 4th century)
