In 2006, the Company announced that it retained Siemens to design, build and operate state-of-the-art 2G and 3G nationwide wireless networks. HCPT launched its commercial services on 30 March 2007 under the brand. Indonesia is an extremely attractive wireless market with a sizable population and a relatively low mobile penetration rate. The country experienced strong mobile subscriber growth rate in 2006 and we believe there is a great deal of growth remaining. Indonesia is an excellent example of Hutchison Telecom’s vision and strategy in achieving growth in emerging markets. Site Map

HISTORY
By the time of the Renaissance, the islands of Java and Sumatra had already enjoyed a 1,000-year heritage of advanced civilization spanning two major empires. During the 7th-14th centuries, the Buddhist kingdom of Srivijaya flourished on Sumatra. At its peak, the Srivijaya Empire reached as far as West Java and the Malay Peninsula. Also by the 14th century, the Hindu Kingdom of Majapahit had risen in eastern Java. Gadjah Mada, the empire's chief minister from 1331 to 1364, succeeded in gaining allegiance from most of what is now modern Indonesia and much of the Malay archipelago as well. Legacies from Gadjah Mada's time include a codification of law and an epic poem. Islam arrived in Indonesia sometime during the 12th century and, through assimilation, supplanted Hinduism by the end of the 16th century in Java and Sumatra. Bali, however, remains overwhelmingly Hindu. In the eastern archipelago, both Christian and Islamic proselytizing took place in the 16th and 17th centuries and, currently, there are large communities of both religions on these islands. Beginning in 1602, the Dutch slowly established themselves as rulers of present-day Indonesia, exploiting the weakness of the small kingdoms that had replaced that of Majapahit. The only exception was East Timor which remained under Portugal until 1975. During 300 years of Dutch rule, the Dutch developed the Netherlands East Indies into one of the world's richest colonial possessions.

BINTAN TOURS - HISTORY OF INDONESIA
The strategic position of Indonesia, has had influences on both the political and economic history of the islands.
Fossils of "Java Man" (Pithecanthropus Erectus) which date back 500,000 years, was discovered in the village of Trinil in East Java in 1809. This discovery is a evidence of Java's earliest inhabitants.
Major migration movements to the Indonesian archipelago have been traced as far back as 3,000- 500 B.C. These first migrants were of Mongoloid stock from China and Tonkin and have been credited with introducing new Stone, Bronze and Iron Age cultures as well as the Austronesian language.
Indonesia came under the influence of a mighty Indian civilization through the gradual influx of Indian traders in the first century A.D., when great Hindu and Buddhist empires were beginning to emerge.
By the seventh century, the powerful Buddhist Kingdom of Sriwijaya was expanding and it is thought that during this period the spectacular Borobudur Buddhist sanctuary was built in Central Java.
The thirteenth century saw the rise of the fabulous Majapahit Hindu empire in East Java, which united the whole of what is now modern day Indonesia and parts of the Malay peninsula, and ruled for two centuries.

      Indonesia History
A mixture of more than seventeen thousand islands, today's Modern Indonesia incorporates an extensive variety of religious and cultural customs, as well as a rich nation priding itself in its own unique character. Looking at this archipelagic nation these days brings astonishment in knowing that Indonesia history dates back to the first Indonesian archipelago inhabitation of the "Java Man" believed to have existed roughly from five-hundred-thousand to two-million years ago.
For nearly a thousand years, Indonesia history records involvement in maritime trade that resulted to a broad array of ethnic influences both culturally and religiously. One of the first people who were able to trade with the islands were the Chinese, followed by Buddhist and Hindu mercantilist from India who structured two empires called the Majapahit and Srivijaya during the 8th century AD. In the 13th century, these empires were displaced by Islamic influences carried by the Malay and Arab seafarers.

    History of Indonesia
    Prehistory
Geologically the area of modern Indonesia appeared sometime around the Pleistocene period when it was still linked with the Asian mainland. The area's first known humanlike inhabitant was Java man some 500,000 years ago. The current Indonesian archipelago was formed during the thaw after the latest ice age. Indian scholars wrote about the Dvipantara or Jawa Dwipa Hindu kingdom in Java and Sumatra around 200 BC. The Taruma kingdom occupied West Jawa around 400. In 425 Buddhism reached the area.
    Early empires
By the time of the European Renaissance, the islands of Java and Sumatra had already enjoyed a thousand-year heritage of civilization spanning two major empires. During the 7th to 14th centuries, the Buddhist kingdom of Srivijaya flourished on Sumatra. Chinese traveller I Ching visited its capital, Palembang, around 670. At its peak, the Srivijaya Empire reached as far as West Java and the Malay Peninsula. Also by the 14th century, the Hindu Kingdom of Majapahit had risen in eastern Java. Gajah Mada, the empire's chief minister from 1331 to 1364, succeeded in gaining allegiance from most of what is now modern Indonesia and much of the Malay archipelago as well. Legacies from Gajah Mada's time include a codification of law and in Javanese culture, exemplified by the epic poem the Ramayana Islam arrived in Indonesia sometime during the 12th century and, through assimilation, supplanted Hinduism by the end of the 16th century in Java and Sumatra. Only Bali retained a Hindu majority. In the eastern archipelago, both Christian and Islamic missionaries were active in the 16th and 17th centuries, and, currently, there are large communities of both religions on these islands. The spread of Islam was driven by increasing trade links outside of the archipelago; in general, traders and the royalty of major kingdoms were the first to adopt the new religion. Dominant kingdoms included Mataram in Central Java, and the sultanates of Ternate and Tidore in the Maluku Islands to the east.

    Indonesia History
Posted by Yogi on Feb 13, '08 3:23 AM for everyone Beberapa malam yang lalu gw menonton sebuah film sejarah, well, sejarah versi komersial tepatnya, bukan versi hollywood karena memang yang buat adalah orang Inggris. Judulnya Elizabeth The Golden Age.
It's gonna be an exited movie. Well, soalnya gw suka film-film klasik kolosal semacam itu. Let see, asal aja kualitas filmnya ngga semacam dubing-dubingannya indosiar. haha..
