I will not give out personal information such as my address, telephone number, parents’ work address/telephone number, or the name and location of my school without my parents’ or teacher's permission. I will tell my parents or teacher right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable. I will never agree to get together with someone I "meet" online without first checking with my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and bring my mother or father along. I will never send a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my parents or teacher. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents or teacher right away so that they can contact the service provider. I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online and appropriate areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their permission.

What You Should Know...
The Internet serves as a great resource; users can find information, communicate with people from around the world and access entertainment. Because there are no censors on the Internet, people are free to post and view various kinds of content. The downside of this liberty is that there are few regulations protecting users from unfavorable material. Internet users can take steps in order to protect themselves and their family from the risks found online.
Online Risks
Most people who use the Internet have positive experiences, but like any other endeavor, it also carries risks. A majority of users do not experience harmful situations online, but just as in any corporeal environment, people must be aware of their surroundings in the virtual setting. About one in seven youths experience sexual solicitation over the Internet, therefore, children should be aware of online risks and taught how to navigate the web safely.

Basic Internet Safety Rules for Wiccans, Pagans, and Everyone Else

      See More About:
A quick note on Internet safety is appropriate here. Many people have met new friends, coven mates and even spouses online and never had any problems at all. However, you need to remember at all times that the person on the other end of that email may not always be who or what they claim to be. The Internet is a big place, and sadly, it includes people who are Just Not Nice. It’s also not a bad idea to have a friend or family members call you at a specific time DURING the meeting, so that if things are going badly you can gracefully extricate yourself from the situation. Simply saying something like, “I’m so sorry, my friend is having a car emergency and I have to go pick her up,” is perfectly acceptable. Another option is to have a secret code phrase that means "I think I might be in trouble." Choose something inocuous, like

There are many benefits to using the internet
When kids use the Internet the educational advantages are endless. The Internet is used by schools, universities, libraries, businesses and more. The Internet is a virtual encyclopedia. And you don't have to be a computer geek to use the Internet. It is incredibly easy. Use it for homework, communicating with friends, computer games, on-line games, shopping and even business. Many schools now use the computer as a way to communicate to families. Parents can access their child's grades, class assignments and attendance. Upcoming events, announcements and individual school calendars are also posted on their school webpage as well as their school profile. Any child who is old enough to punch in a few letters on the keyboard can literally access the world. With all the wonderful advantages the computer and Internet offers, it is important for parents to know Internet safety. The Internet gives great benefits to everyone...most of all children. And with all of its advantages, it has disadvantages which can create dangers for children. It is critical that every parent and every childcare giver know everything there is to know about the Internet and the possible hazards it creates for children. Learn how to deal with them...learn the Internet rules.

Cybersafety: A Guide to Safety On Line As an educational tool, the Internet offers users the ability to learn about virtually any topic. Children in particular are eager to explore this new world and the relationships it brings. Although our youth can get a lot of benefit from being on line, the World Wide Web is not without risks. Parents should be aware of this and not view the Internet as simply a benign, entertainment medium. The fact that crimes are being committed on-line should not make you avoid using Internet services. A better strategy would be to ensure your children learn how to safeguard themselves from the potential dangers that lurk on the Internet. Children need parental guidance, supervision and common-sense advice on how to make their experiences in "cyberspace" happy, healthy and productive.
