In 1946 Italy changed its government. In this year, the people voted to change their nation from a monarchy, which was ruled by a king to a republic that was headed by a president. King Humbert the 2 nd fastest left the throne and the voters elected 556 members to the Constituent Assembly to write a constitution. The constitution was passed in 1947 and took effect on January 1,1948. The constitution established a government, which was made up of a president, the Council of Ministers headed by a prime minister, and a Parliament with a Senate and a Chamber of Deputies.
    President
The president of Italy was elected to a seven-year term by both of the houses of Parliament. In Italy the president must be at least 50 years old. They show the prime minister, who forms the government. The president has the power to get ride of Parliament and call a new election. The president is the commander of the Italians. Italy doesn’t have a vice president. If the president of Italy is sick, the president of the Italian Senate takes over the job. If the president dies, a presidential election is held.
    Prime Minister and Cabinet
The prime minister decides a national policy and is the most important person in the Italian government. The prime minister is picked by the president, but can be voted out of office any time. Members of the cabinet are picked by the prime minister, and usually come from the members of Parliament. The president then appoints the members to the cabinet, and they are approved by Parliament. The Italian prime minister and the cabinet are officially called the government.

    Question #73134. author asks:
What country has had the largest number of governments since World War II?
Italy has had more than 50 governments since World War II, but the nation's well-established bureaucracy tends to hold the state together despite the political instability. http://www.britannica.com/ebi/article-203106 Dec 10 06, 6:43 AM queproblema miffy, that's what your link says, all right, but I don't think that's the right answer. Italy has had the same constitution since 1948. We in the US are in our 43rd administration since 1789, but it's still the same government, no matter how much we might argue about original intent and the living Constitution. I would guess France is high on the list for actually changing governments, at least 5 times, but don't have time for further indagation at the moment.

    Regions of Italy
The Regions of Italy were granted a degree of regional autonomy in the 1948 constitution, which states that the constitution's role is: to recognize, protect and promote local autonomy, to ensure that services at the State level are as decentralized as possible, and to adapt the principles and laws establishing autonomy and decentralization.
