The Japanese culture and arts have been strongly influenced by a wide-spread belief in ghosts, demons and supernatural spirits. The roots of Japanese mythology are in the Shinto religion, in Taoism and in Zen Buddhism alike.
    Daruma and Japanese Mythology
Daruma is the founder of Zen Buddhism in Japan (552 AD). Originally an Indian priest named Bodhidharma, he crossed all over China to introduce Buddhism in Japan. The legend says that he crossed the sea from China to Japan standing on a bamboo. Daruma is mostly shown in a position of meditation. He is said to have lost the use of his arms and legs by meditating for nine years in a cave. Therefore he is often shown as Daruma doll without legs and arms. The Daruma dolls, or today simply called Daruma, are a symbol of good luck in Japan. Students having their exams or companies starting a new enterprise, buy a Daruma for good luck.

http://forums.narutofan.com/archive/index.php/t-269744.html
Naruto Forums Naruto Avenue Konoha Library Naruto Theories ... PDA View Full Version : minato vs madara mayumi 09-16-2007, 11:50 AM i found it incredibly interesting that in chapter 370 both minato's and madara's faces appeared in it. not only that, but i found that they maybe have been little similar in the amount of potential they had as a shinobi.
madara/sasuke is one of the character in the manga that many have associated with susano, god of storms which makes sense because of sasuke's lightning ability. at the same time minato because of hiraishin which means flying thunder god is also a bit similar at least in the name.
whats more interesting is uzumaki kushina who is from the former whirlpool country that might have a symbol of spiral which is present on konoha jackets and associated everywhere with naruto but you can also see it on tobi's mask(not sure if this is important yet).
kushinada-hime according to the tale of susano, orochi etc, that u can read here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_mythology
is married to susano. in naruto manga, if we assume it is related then she is married to minato.
