Long Tail Cast-On
This cast-on is the favorite of many knitters. It creates a discreet edge that looks good with stockinette stitch and is stretchy enough to accommodate ribbing. It's easier to knit from than the simpler Backward Loop cast-on, and it's easy to execute once you get the hang of it. Recommended for beginners, or anyone. View more cast-on videos

Knit hat, yarn , and knitting needles Knitting is a method by which thread or yarn may be turned into cloth . Knitting consists of loops called stitches pulled through each other. The active stitches are held on a needle until another loop can be passed through them. Knitting may be done by hand or by machine. By hand, there are numerous styles and methods. Flat knitting, which is done on two straight needles, produces a length of cloth, while circular knitting, which is done on circular or double-pointed needles, produces a seamless tube. Different yarns and knitting needles may be used to achieve different end products, by giving the final piece different color, texture, weight, or integrity.

Oldies Music with Pizzazz!!

O nce upon a time in a land far, far away, there lived a crowell, we won't say. I've been told that the particular word doesn't go over well with some knitters. Let's just say there lived a chick without two pointy sticks. Her favorite craft used one stick-like object instead of two in order to achieve crafty pieces. And she started a site. A link directory. People liked it. It got big. Really big. Big enough be mentioned in cool magazines. T ime passed. The crafters who didn't "do" the craft with a hook at the end of the stick (and therefore couldn't use the existing link directory) piped up, "Hey, we want a site of our own!" And so the croooopsthe chick without sticks...who does, for the record book, know one cast on, the knit stitch, and one cast off (let's be completely fair to her) said: "Why not? Happy to oblige. Meet Knitting Pattern Central." People liked it. It got big. (5,000 unique visitors

Thank you Thank you to everyone who posted answers to my increasing questions the other day. I ended up asking again at my knitting group tonight and the people there acted like I was an idiot but still were able to show me how to do it. It came out with little visible holes (when I finish the squid I'll post pictures) but once it's felted I don't think they'll be noticeable and even if they are they give that part of it more texture. So I guess for now it's okay. It's all part of the learning process right? Knit 1 05:39 pm May 28th, 2008 knitting

Home An Ocean Safe to Sleep On... I have waited a long time to be an aunt...and even longer to design this blanket. Fold upon fold to keep the eye guessing CRAZY This blanket looks different each time it's put down... It takes of from " Beach for a baby boy " , but instead of using interlocking tubes it uses knitted in flaps. I've used short flaps ond fat puffy ones with plain knitting in between. I made them out of sync to accentuate the difference and really push the blanket into the 3rd dimention. The back is made to look as interesting as the front. Shapes and spaces keep cropping up. The hot pink bits are my signature. Imagine what you will with it, the picture keeps changing...just like the ocean. T he pattern is being written up in patternapedia More...

The real reason for the trip to Seattle: so the boys could walk in the Syttende Mai (17th of May) parade in Ballard was a little girl My mom in her bunad and E in one of the little woolen jackets that my Bestemor (grandmother) in Norway made and embroidered for my brothers when they were little. Plenty of vikings and trolls and so many beautiful bunads were all around.

    Let Me Introduce Myself
Hi, I'm Nellie the Knittin' Nut - or at least that's how my best friends refer to me. They're right, of course - I could probably safely say I'm obsessed with knitting, and especially knitting for charity. I'm NEVER just sitting still - in front of my computer screen, watching a movie, even driving in my car, my knitting is ALWAYS on my lap, or in my bag beside me. (Don't worry, I let my hubby do the driving!) And knitting for charity is in my bones. Here's how I got started: Several years ago, I spent a winter with my hubby in a little cabin in the middle of nowhere while he worked on a special contract job. He had to work 'graveyard shift,' which meant that he slept most of the day. And me? Well, there wasn't much for me to do, so I took up the knitting I'd learned a few decades earlier. I decided to knit hats for all my children, who were young adult snowboarders at the time.
