Categories: Events I just heard that Janet Tilp and Debra Pearce will be spinning at the Sherwood Farmers Market this Saturday. The market is next to City Hall at 22560 SW Pine Street and is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Janet and Debra have slot 40 at the market and will be selling sheep and pygora goat fibers from their own animals for felting and spinning. They'll also have knitted items, hand painted rovings, felted soaps and drop spindles for sale. They may or may not be back at the market a few other times later in the season, I'll let you know if I hear more. Post a comment View comments (0) Permalink (Learn More)

Gathered Scarf Pattern
Maryse Roudier has a pattern up on her blog for this super warm-looking gathered scarf . The texture looks very inviting, and seems a good way to get more warming yarn in per square inch. If you're in the southern hemisphere, this could come in handy pretty shortly, and for those of us where it's warm, we can get a head start on our holiday gifts. (Thanks, Patti

Dear Ann, In the precious sitting time allowed on my recent trip, I worked on the Lace Ribbon Scarf , and finished it. Coming in at just under 2 skeins of Claudia Handpainted Linen (the base yarn is Euroflax Originals Sportweight), Lace Ribbon Scarf is done.
Let us pause for a moment to note that I not only choose the same colors over and over, but the same combinations. I don't do this consciously, and certainly not out of a desire to live matchily. I just find myself drawn to the same colors again and again. After a while a new color pokes its way into the rotation. I'm never bored. The scarf is approximately 52 inches long. I worked 20 1/2 repeats of the 24-row lacy ribbon pattern.
It's long enough to knot in the French manner. But I think that obscures the ribbon pattern too much. (The lady bust belonged to my late mother-in-law. I think this is the first time it's modelled knitting. It's as close as I've got to a Madonna, and I'm missing the Madonnas.)
As I worked on the scarf, I started to think, in a caffeinated way, about what a nice stole it would make if it were wider, and how it would be fun, yet still beautiful, to tweak the pattern to make the ribbons wave a bit more fluidly. I have 3 skeins of Handmaiden Sea Silk that were meant for a birthday stole for a friend and never quite made it to cast-on. (It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I noticed that there were 999 Lacy Ribbon projects on Ravelry, and that if I hurried, I could be number 1000.)

May 28th, 2008 Finishing one small project can really motivate you to start another! Not long after the pram blanket , I whipped up these two cushions for the reading corner in Annette's room. I love the clouds fabric (from here ), I think it's just great for these cushions. For the back I used some ribbed t-shirt fabric that I found in the bargain bin at Spotlight. I have lots to learn about sewing with this kind of fabric (hello Sew U Home Stretch ?). I had some issues with stretching in the beginning (as I expected), but I think it worked out quite well in the end. Phew. Posted in Sewing with 7 comments

May 23rd, 2008 I'm on a sewing kick at the moment. My poor, poor sewing machine had been neglected for so long. It's been calling to me again this week. I think it started when a friend had a baby, and I thought I'd make her a pram blanket. I liked the super quick + easy baby quilt from the Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts book, but I ended up making a rather modified version of it. The size is a lot smaller, which is pram-sized (this one measures about 20 x 20 inches) rather than cot-sized. This was indeed a quick project. I feel like I was cheating in so many ways. Firstly I didn't do any binding, and secondly the fabric has done all the work for me with that faux patchwork :) (Found it at Spotlight, if anyone's wondering. The backing is a polar fleece that I also got from Spotlight.) But hey, I've been wanting to make a quilt for so long (what was it, oh

Catching Up
I started a post days ago and then work/knitting/Ravelry/life got in the way. So the short version is: Maryland Sheep and Wool was fun times. Saw some really awesome old friends and made some new ones. Bought some excellent yarn. Got sunburned. I was overwhelmed (in a good way) by all the Ravelry craziness, but it didn't stop me from participating. Jess and Casey have obviously done an amazing thing and I'm so proud of my friends. And a little in awe of them. Pictures from the trip are [ here ], if you're interested. And here's what I got while I was there:
The stash. That's some sock yarn, yarn for one sweater, and some clasps and buttons. I was very restrained, actually. Although after seeing all the Namaste bags that Jess and Casey had for door prizes, I immediately came home and ordered this pretty pretty bag:
This is the Namaste Laguna. It's beautiful and soft. It is also HUGE. If you don't want a big bag, it's not for you, but if you like to carry everything with you, I highly recommend it. Since I bought that the night I returned, I guess that counts as a MDSW purchase. Hee. Anyways. What else? Well, I finished Anais. The unraveling of the cast on edge quickly turned into CUTTING OFF the ribbing and picking up stitches, but I'm okay with that. It was a messy job, but I'm super pleased with the results:
