Spanish GCSE With the growing number of people visiting Spain for their holidays, GCSE Spanish has never been more appealing. With Spanish GCSE, one can hold conversations in Spanish, read complicated Spanish texts and write lengthy essays in Spanish. The emphasis is on a useful and practical knowledge of the language so that one can make the most of holidays in Spain. The board followed at both GCSE and A level is AQA and a copy of the syllabus can be accessed at www.aqa.co.uk. The coursebook followed is Listos. At A level, Spanish is taught with Sigue. There are two tiers of examination: Foundation and Higher. The grades awarded at Foundation level range from C to G. Grades at Higher level range from A* to D. Students can mix the tiers of entry, sitting higher exams in the skills where they feel most confident. There are four different sections to the GCSE and each section is given equal weight: Listening, speaking, reading and writing. The listening and reading skills are assessed by exams (30-50 minutes) at the end of the two year course. The speaking section of the GCSE is assessed by a 10-15 minute oral exam which is recorded on cassette.
