For thousands of years, we've been developing our own unique culture here in Laos. Tourism brings many benefits to a country such as ours, but thoughtless tourism can also destroy a culture. Please help us preserve ours!
The Hunter Who Meditated
The Khmu are the largest ethnic minority in Laos. Many rural children speak the Khmu language with their family at home, then later learn Lao. Siphone spent a year collecting favorite folktales. Here are seven stories that are particularly popular in Khmu villages. We need a sponsor before we can print this book. Can you help? (About sponsorships)
Sabaidee!
That means "Hello" in Laos. Welcome to one of the friendliest countries on the planet. These 10 suggestions will help you enjoy your visit, while helping us preserve our culture and traditions. They were prepared by Big Brother Mouse, and illustrated by our own artist, Chittakone . If you visit Luang Prabang, you'll recognize a few of the locations he drew. Temples are beautiful and interesting, but most of all, they are holy places. Please visit, but dress appropriately, covering shoulders, knees, and everything in between. (Yes, that stomach too!) Whether in a temple or on the street, women who wear a traditional sihn (long skirt) will find the gesture much appreciated.
