Executive summary
Computers and other aspects of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) allow children and young people a wide variety of activities and experiences that can support learning, yet many of these transactions do not take place in traditional educational settings. In fact many of these may not be considered ‘educational’ according to our conventional understanding of that term. For most of us, discussion about learning is inextricably related to formal education systems (how schools should be organised, managed and run). However, any interest in the role of ICTs in children’s learning forces the recognition that many children are immersed in

Expert review on Trichomonas vaginalis polymerase chain reaction compared with standard diagnostic and therapeutic protocols for detection and treatment of vaginal trichomoniasis.

Trichomonas vaginalis has long been an "orphan pathogen" (poorly understood, under funded, often untreated) whose time may have finally arrived. Trichomonas is remarkably prevalent in developed and developing countries, in both men and women. Many studies have suggested that trichomonas infections could play a significant role in the sexual transmission of HIV. Detection of trichomonas in a clinic setting depends on visual recognition in a fresh vaginal specimen (wet-mount preparations), a technique with limited sensitivity. Culture of trichomonas has better sensitivity, but the technique is more cumbersome and labor intensive. Men are rarely examined or treated, regardless of high prevalence [1, 2]. In one of many studies to bemoan the status of trichomonas, Wendel et al. compared wet preparations, PCR, and culture in "high risk" women attending Baltimore City STD Clinics. The study cohort included 337 women, most of whom (70%) had symptoms. As expected

Researchers across a variety of disciplines including economics, sociology and psychology have been studying economic mobility for some time. Led by a team of researchers from The Urban Institute, the project has summarized the best-available existing research on various factors that might influence individual and family economic mobility, both within and across generations. The literature reviews presented here cover a broad range of individual and family factors including education, families, health, self-employment, and wealth, and they address a variety of social factors including discrimination, globalization, immigration, labor market institutions, and tax and spending policy. The summaries provide insight into what is known about how these factors affect mobility both within and across generations. However, given the vast nature of the topic, the project considers these working documents that will be updated and expanded as more research continues to be generated in the economic mobility arena.

On the Gift of Humor
Human beings were given many gifts when we were created, such as imagination, inventiveness, and reason, but I often think the greatest gift was a sense of humor. For it is our sense of humor that enables us to tolerate and, in a way, triumph over the terrible things that happen to all of us, from time to time, in the course of our lives. That is, mirthful humor has a remarkable therapeutic value that is connected to our survival, psychologically as well as physically. We now know that laughter leads to the release of endorphins and has physiological benefits of various kinds. (more...)

Chuang-tze:A Positive Psychologist in Ancient China
The positive psychological movement has played a more and more important role in the stage of psychology. Positive psychology emphasizes subject well-being and has three pillars: positive emotion, positive traits, and positive institutions. Chuang-tze was a notable thinker in the history of ancient China. His life career and his world outlook provide an important cue to the understanding of positive psychology. The unexhausted life force and lofty state of spirit in his thought strongly influence and attract people of later generation. Moreover, his brilliant exposition about value and value judgment is the vital source for us to excavate his theory of value.
