Lyme disease (sometimes mistakenly referred to as lime disease) is a disease carried by deer ticks which was first identified and diagnosed in Lyme, Connecticut. It sometimes produces a well-known "bull's eye" rash around the tick bite - but not always. It can be effectively treated with antibiotics in the early stages. However, if left untreated Lyme disease may result in a myriad of symptoms ranging from light dizzyness to joint pain and, in the later stages, nervous system disorders and chronic memory loss. Learn what to look for and what to do if you think you've caught the disease - with the help of top sites featuring pictures, diagrams, along with tips and advice on prevention, symptoms and treatment of Lyme disease...

    http://www.shakervet.com/lyme_disease.html
Health Issues - Lyme Disease It is interesting to note that Lyme Disease has become the most common tick-borne disease in North America and has become a significant threat to public health. Not only can you get Lyme Disease; your dog can also become infected by being bitten by an infected tick. Ticks live in the grass and weeds your dog may run through on family outings, daily walks, or during regular daily activities. First discovered in humans in 1975 and later reported in dogs in 1984, Lyme Disease, or Borreliosis, continues to sweep across the country, affecting more victims each year. This disease is caused by the transmission of a spirochete (bacteria-like organism) known as Borrelia burgdorferi. Carriers of these bacteria are certain species of ticks, small parasites that live off the blood of other creatures. The deer tick is the most common species of tick to carry Lyme Disease. When an infected tick bites, the bacteria causing Lyme Disease is then transferred into the host's blood. Lyme Disease is prevalent in North America and may exist in any region where Borrelia burgdorferi infected ticks live. To keep your pets and yourself safe, you should be wary of any tick you find attached to either yourself or your dog. Studies have shown that migratory birds have helped transport the infected ticks, contributing to the spread of this disease. In addition, dogs and other animals that go into infested areas have the potential for carrying the infected ticks back into their own habitat. If you travel during the warm summer months and plan to take your dog with you, exercise caution in secluded or heavily wooded areas. These are natural environments for ticks and the Lyme Disease bacteria.

Lyme disease , which is also referred to as Borreliosis, is the result of an infected tick biting a human and passing on the organism which causes Lyme disease. Lyme disease is named for the town of the first cases in 1975, which were discovered in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Lyme disease is now a threat in every state within the United States, most Canadian countries, and some South American countries. If there are ticks, there is Lyme disease. Lyme disease tends to mimic various diseases and can often be very difficult to diagnose. Over 16,000 cases of Lyme disease are reported in the United States annually. Symptoms of Lyme disease are similar to many autoimmune diseases as well as neurological diseases. Symptoms include either a flat or raised lesions in the area of the tick bite which has the potential to range from 1 to 3 inches in diameter. The lesion often has a white center and red streak like rims or a clear center with redness around it. Other symptoms include muscle pain, fever, lethargy, headache, stiff neck

    Lyme Disease
Lyme disease is spread by the bite of the tiny tick, usually no bigger than a pinhead. Because it is so tiny and its bite is generally painless, the tick is hard to detect. Feeding ticks must usually be attached for 24 to 48 hours before transmitting the disease. Unfortunately, if not promptly diagnosed and treated, Lyme disease can cause serious problems involving the heart, joints and nervous system.
The number of cases of Lyme disease has been on the rise since 1990. The US saw an increase from about 8,000 cases in 1990 to over 16,000 in 1999. The states with the highest number of cases are Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Except for the mid western states, most states so have some risk for this disease.
Lyme disease is caused when an Ixodes tick passes on the germ known as "Borrelia burgdorferi," while sucking blood from its victim. Most people who get Lyme disease will show a rounded red rash at the place the tick bit them within a month. Some never develop a rash, while others develop multiple spots. The rash is called erythema migrans (formerly erythema chronicum migrans). The rash may be solid red, form a ring or multiple rings called a "bulls-eye" appearance. The rash is commonly about four inches across when seen, but often covers large areas of the body. Usually, bites that leave a ring less than 2 inches don't turn out to be Lyme.

LIME DISEASE U K P R I C E S What is Lime Disease? Lime disease (lyme disease), or borreliosis, is an infectious disease caused by spirochete bacteria from the genus Borrelia. The vector of infection is typically the bite of an infected black-legged or deer tick, but other carriers may be ticks which have been implicated. Borrelia burgdorferi is the predominant cause of Lyme disease in the US and Borrelia afzelii and Borrelia garinii are in Europe. The disease presentation varies widely, and may include a rash and flu-like symptoms in its initial stage, then musculoskeletal, arthritic, neurologic, psychiatric and cardiac manifestations. In a majority of cases symptoms can be eliminated with the use of specific antibiotics, especially if treatment is started very early in the course of illness.
Late or inadequate treatment often leads to "late stage" Lime disease (lime disease) that is disabling and difficult to treat. Furthermore, this is comlicated by the fact that this is a very dificult disease to diagnose accurately in the early stages.
