Mail fraud From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Mail fraud refers to any scheme which attempts to unlawfully obtain money or valuables in which the postal system is used at any point in the commission of a criminal offense. Mail fraud is a legal concept in the United States Code which can provide for increased penalty of any criminally fraudulent activity if it is determined that the activity involved used the United States Postal Service . As in the case of wire fraud , this statute is often used as a basis for a separate federal prosecution of what would otherwise have been only a violation of a state law. The concept of mail fraud is irrelevant in countries with non-federal legal systems: the activities listed below are likely to be crimes, but the fact that they are carried out by mail makes no difference to which authority may prosecute or the penalties which may be imposed. Vinny 08-03-2005, 11:12 PM Ok, I heard that term (mail fraud) today when talking to my friend about a deal he recently got screwed out of. He bought 3 Simpsons figures from someone at some forum he visits. He said that he paid using PayPal and the guy sent a few days after he paid using Priority mail (no DC or insurance). But a month later, he has still hasn't received his figures yet.. and guy he bought them from said he shipped. My friend didn't believe him and accused the guy of lying. But when the guy said he'd file 'mail fraud' against my friend, he pretty much lost it. He didn't know what to say or do... That brings me to my question: what the hell is mail fraud?:-? If you're sending him the money, what does it matter of his money issues? Tell him to setup a paypal account which is free, add a bank account and that's it. He'll have the money the next day i don't think thats the issue. i think the issue is he wants the money and isn't going to send the product.! thats why he doesn't want to use paypal because its probably linked and he can't scam with paypal.
