About 10 percent of Palestinian children suffer permanent effects from malnutrition, according to a survey published Wednesday, a result of widespread poverty in the West Bank and Gaza.
The root cause is poverty, according to Khaled Abu Khaled, who directed the study for the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics. He said the numbers are up slightly over the past two years.
"One obvious effect of malnutrition is stunted growth among children, which has increased about three percent in the last two years," he said.

We see the proof daily: Six to eight weeks after they start treatment with Medika Mamba, these children are transformed. They are normal for weight for height. Their sparse, reddish hair grows in thick and black. They look healthy and energetic. Their eyes are bright and clear.
Finally, Medika Mamba is produced in Haiti. We benefit the Haitian economy by employing and purchasing locally, and we work extensively with farmers to improve their agricultural practices.

    Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Nutritional Rehabilitation Homes (NRH) for severely malnourished children. About half the children in Nepal under age five are malnourished. This is a leading cause of death in this age group. Children come with their mothers to one of our six Homes. They are so malnourished that they are close to death. In just six weeks, we restore the child to health and educate the mother in nutrition, and proper childcare. Field workers visit the village to be sure that the weight gain is being maintained.
    Activities
NYOF provides proper nutrition and care to starving children while educating the mothers on how to feed their children with nutritious, locally grown food, and provide hygienic care. The mothers can return to the villages and instruct other families.

This sculpture of a Homo floresiensis female was created by Elisabeth Dayn¨s under strict scientific scrutiny, reflecting how scientists think the hominids looked during life 18,000 years ago.
MSNBC staff and news service reports HONG KONG - Small humanlike skeletons found in a cave on a remote Indonesian island were actually human, and their miniature features were probably due to nutritional deficiency, researchers in Australia have suggested. Writing in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, the scientists said these were more likely to be cretin offspring of normal mothers who suffered from iodine and other dietary deficiencies. Cretinism is a condition of severely stunted physical and mental growth due to a congenital deficiency of thyroid hormones. Ever since the 18,000-year-old skeletons were found in Liang Bua on the Indonesian island of Flores, four years ago, anthropologists have debated whether or not they represented a previously unseen species of dwarf hominid — or merely a group of deformed humans. The newly published research opens an additional argument for the latter view.
